Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
decooney - you have a PM.
Futterman. Jump in? Or, not so fast...
clio09 - cool. So, if I were to send you info about the tubes I need, might you be able to provide several which would match the test data of the tubes already in the amp?

Roberjerman - Thanks for the comment. I had sent you a message a day or two ago and it appears you might not have noticed. Can you tell me how many hours you get out of a set of tubes on the H3aa's? I've read somewhere that they will go 10,000 hou...

I'm using an Innersound Electrostatic amp. It is a circa ~`1999 - 2001 or so amp that I have seen for $2000 and less.
Who Offers a Highly Musical Preamp using a 6SN7 tube and a remote?
Supratek - I think the Chardonnay is priced right around $2000. Seek out the thread entitled "Preamp Deal of the Century". At one time that thread had 26 million hits. I don't think I ever read through each and every of the 70+ pages. But I read e...

I hope you feel you're still getting value out of this thread. Kinda seems to me that what started out as a pretty straightforward quest - to pick up a wonderful tube preamp - has evolved into a somewhat wide open discussion of many wonderful opti...

I warmly invite you to consider tracking down and auditioning a pair of Quad ESL speakers. 63s, 988s, 2805/2905, etc. Any of these might require a rebuild (cost about $2000 with shipping) but there is a reason why these are universally well regard...
MHDT Orchid or Lampizator Amber 3?
just a quick note about system matching.  Over the weekend I took my orchid up to my brothers place. In his system he has a rega CD player and an audible illusions preamplifier. One of their newer ones. Feeding into a big beefy parasound Power Am...

One other point I want to make is that you're really not in that unique of a position with respect to finding it hard to audition some of this equipment. At least in my experience the very best equipment is hard to find. It's not mass Market. Yeah...

Well, it’s been a while since I looked at this thread. And internet fora are nothing if there aren’t Divergent opinions expressed, right? Having said that, I will recommend that with respect to your power amp question you seek out a white paper wh...

I suggest you look at either Don Sachs or supratek. They are within your budget and are handmade, with point-to-point wiring and are a very, very well-regarded on this forum.Look for a thread on this forum titled. Preamp deal of the century. And l...

MHDT Orchid or Lampizator Amber 3?
I think the question of whether a Z is better than a T variant is open for discussion and might depend on other system characteristics. Don Sachs, who builds very well-respected Preamps and buys a ton of tubes from China and uses them in his equip...
