Tube Amps Watts vs SS amp
Oh my merciful heavens. Please read Roger Sanders excellent white paper on tubes vs solid state. He explains in language anyone can understand why tubes sound different than solid state. Much of what I have read on various fora in response to ques...
What would be a good amp to drive a pair of Martin Logan Impression ESL 11A?
I suggest a Sanders Magtech or Innersounds Electrostatic amplifier. And I suggest (as I have done many times) Roger Sanders excellent white paper on tubes vs. Solid state as useful reading as you begin this journey.
Supratek or Don Sachs - which way to go?
I have not listened to either.
Supratek or Don Sachs - which way to go?
Hi everyone - Remember me? I'm the OP. I REALLY APPRECIATE everyone's comments on this thread. I am still learning and appreciate the discussion here. Frankly, I'm still on the fence about which of the two preamps I'm going to pull the trigger on....
Supratek or Don Sachs - which way to go?
The question above about how or why I narrowed my search down to these two is worth thinking about. To explain, I need to share a little history.A friend had bought a Prima Luna integrated to go with his quad 2805s. So initially I was looking at o...
The Audio Gods are tough but fair-Have you had the "Curse of the 300B" ?
Aric,Yes, thanks. Those comments are helpful. I'm preparing to move, and in my new listening room I should have room for two systems (since my wife objects to having the rather large JBLs in the living room).  The write-up above and all the commen...
The Audio Gods are tough but fair-Have you had the "Curse of the 300B" ?
Question: would 300b amplifiers work with my ~93dB efficient JBL 4430 studio monitors? Or do I need something more efficient than that?
Bit the Bullet ... Don Sachs Model 2 Preamp
Can anyone share their thoughts about expected tube life for this preamp? Just curious, as I haven't read anything about it. I also wonder if using a variac to control and lower the house current (to something like 110) might result in extending t...
Bit the Bullet ... Don Sachs Model 2 Preamp
So, what are your thoughts now? How are you liking the preamp?
Cary SLP-98L vs. Don Sachs Model 2
Hmmm. I don't see anything in there... I wonder if I'm doing something wrong.
Is the Cary SLP-05 still relavant?
Oh, That piece of junk? No, definitely not relevant any more. You should sell it to me.  ;>)I think that thing looks absolutely amazing.
Tubes vs SS preamp question....
I'll be interested in following this thread, as I have a solid state preamp and am strongly considering replacing it with a tube preamp.Having said that, I encourage you to seek out a white paper on tubes vs. solid state written by Roger Sanders. ...
Dynavector cartridges, old and new
I am a big Fan of Dynavector cartridges. I have owned my Linn LP12 /Ittok for close to 30 years. For several years I used the 10X4 models, but then when I bought a used Aro tonearm it came with a Karat (was it a Karat 19A mk II? I don't remember.....
Looking for great tube integrated for Martin Logan Summit X speakers
Steve -There's nothing wrong with tubes, but I commend to your attention Roger Sanders' excellent white paper on "tubes vs. solid state" which can be found on the sanders sound systems website. I found it to be very helpful in understanding why so...
Looking for great tube integrated for Martin Logan Summit X speakers
I strongly suggest you reconsider whether you really must have a tube integrated amplifier. I suggest you instead consider either A) a used Innersound Electrostatic Amplifier (yes, there really was an amplifier with that name), B) a CODA amplifier...
