Old Legendary tubes vs New Kids on the block Amperex/Siemens/Tele vs Psvane/TAD/Shugaung
Mozart,Sounds like fun and looking forward to the video.  Question - what's the rest of your system? Aren't  the Defy 7's unobtainium from the golden age?

Thanks for that.  Next  question:I often read about the need to let tubes burn in.  Shouldn't that guide our thinking and evaluation process to ensure the comparisons are fair? Not sure how much burn in is enough...

jmolsberg -Thanks for that. I notice your reference to the shuguang WE6SN7. What tone are you getting from this tube?I like a balanced tone. Maybe tending towards *rich*. Or phat. I suppose that translates into a fully-fleshed-out midrange. But I ...
Should the Tone Arm be Removed When Installing Cartridge?
I own a Linn and am well aware of the Linn-advised paranoia about stressing or damaging the bearings. I supposed one *could* exert enough force on the bearings that they could be damaged, but - if one is careful and considers the kind of force exe...

Jackd,I am glad you have a nice supply of vintage tubes. And envy the fact that you picked them up two decades ago so you have a good Supply. But I'm curious what experience you have with the new production tubes to be sure that your opinion is ba...
Power/Current: How much is realistic?
I own a Sanders designed innersound electrostatic Amplifier.  It is an older version of his current amplifier, though not as capable as his current Magtech. I have used it to drive quad ESL 63 speakers and it is a wonderful, very capable amplifier...
New tube preamp
I recently replaced my solid-state preamp with a Supratek Cortese. The Don Sachs model 2 was also one that I was considering very closely because of how highly it is rated. I suggest you mainly seek out a 6SN7 based preamp whether it's from atmasp...
Preamp Deal of the Century
T_ramey,On my cortese gain is adjustable and there is a switch to take the gain control out of the circuit if it's not needed. I think this is common across all of the preamps.
Upgrading Tube Preamp from Audio Research LS-7 - Recommendations for better soundstage?
Have you read about the Don sachs model 2? Have you read the preamp deal of the century thread regarding the Supratek preamps? I'd add those to your list for your consideration. Both are very highly rated custom made by hand products from very sma...

Joseph - I'm very happy for you.  Looking forward to reading your assessment and comments.
6SN7 variants circa 2019 - tone, longevity, reliability, value
" You’ll find countless forum threads on various sites dating back to early to mid 2000s when good NOS 6SN7s were more readily available, more affordable. And, more recent debates the past ten plus years on various rebranded Chinese, Czhec, and...

mr_slate - Yah, I think we all get the same feeling of satisfaction with our gear from Mick. For me, simply speaking, it's virtually life changing. Music just sounds so GOOD. Addicting. It draws me in so deep. And with Spotify broadening my horizo...
Luxman - Shindo - Mcintosh ?
Whoops. My bad.Sorry, I was under the mistaken impression that you were shopping for a preamp.Never mind. However, if you're considering a tube power amp you might find it enjoyable and educational to read Roger Sanders' "transistors vs. tubes" wh...
6SN7 variants circa 2019 - tone, longevity, reliability, value
Excellent point about *where* the 6SN7 is installed and its intended function.I'm using the 6SN7s in my Supratek Cortese preamp. It comes with Russian (Foton, I believe?) 6H8C tubes. There are multiple threads around regarding the Supratek preamps...
