As system improves, do bad recordings sound worse?
I am increasingly of the opinion that the mark of a good system is that most all recordings of interest at least sound good enough to retain the listeners interest. Most recordings have deficiencies versus the ideal but few sound "bad" to me off l...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
" He then proceeded to tell me that when Bob Carver presented his Sonic Holography to the audio world, he did it with Ohm speakers."I have a Carver c-6 pre-amp (sitting idle as a backup currently) with sonic holography that I used with many speake...
Bel Canto S300 with an Audio Research LS3 Q's
I have a similar but significantly different setup.I have an ARC sp16 driving a Bel Canto ref1000mkii.This is a very good combo.Impedance matching between pre-amp output and amp input is a factor that can effect the sound. Tube pre-amp output impe...
help me remove noise from my vinyl setup
I use mu-metal sheeting to protect my MC step up amp from hum/noise induced from external EM fields emitted from amplifiers or other nearby transformers. I roll the mu metal sheeting into a oval tube large enough to insert my step up device into a...
A/V Receivers with Ethernet Connection Question
Yep, good old analog RCA audio cables are one good standard that has been around forever that no computer company, even Apple or Microsoft, can circumvent.
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
I think my Dyns use the Esotar tweeter. I interchange the Dyns and my 100S3s from time to time. My impression is the OHM top end is a bit more relaxed, the Dyn top end a bit hotter yet very nice. The little Dyns can be a little tizzy hot on the to...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Rebbe,How are those LSIs working out?I was listening to my OHM Ls for the first time in a while the other day and it occurred to me that these might be just what the doctor ordered in your case. If available, I think John sells fully upgraded and ...
Todays new vinyl LP's better than LP's 40 yrs ago?
I think a lot of new issues are digitally mastered despite being delivered on vinyl. Not all old records sound great. Some of these could be digitally remastered as well and hence sound "better" as a result of the remastering. Records have always ...
Buy tubes from Audio Research or not
"There is a reason ARC charge as much for the tubes as they do - they measure their tubes, burn them in inhouse for 48h, measure them again - and then throw away those that up to specs. As much as 30% tubes gets rejected this way. No other indepen...
Vintage loudspeakers....Sleeper models....
I recently gave a listen to my OHm Ls for teh first time since some recent system upgrades. I do not get to play these gems as much as my other speakers in the room they are in (an unfinished portion of the basement), but they never disappoint eve...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
"The Ohms image with both specificity (as do the VSM and the P/E) but with a sense of weight and body that the other speakers can't quite match"That's a good way to describe what I often refer to as "meat on the bones", or a more lifelike weight t...
tuners, the red headed stepchild?
I've traditionally been a regular tuner user. However, since acquiring the Roku networked music players and putting in a music server, I hardly use the tuner at all anymore. I can program my own preferences into randomly generated playlists using ...
A/V Receivers with Ethernet Connection Question
DLNA may be the ticket in theory but I would not buy stuff assuming that any two advertised DLNA devices will inter-operate properly. Vendors will usually tell you which devices theirs are certified to work with. Also I am not sure that Apple is a...
Carver TFM 55x
'.I am driving a carver amazing using the 55x and sounds great"Only great, not amazing?Sorry couldn't resist.I agree amp matching is important. I had a Carver mt4.0t for years. It was a powerful and good sounding amp with many speakers that did no...
As system improves, do bad recordings sound worse?
Depends on what you compare to.They may be more disappointing and seemingly worse in comparison to good recordings now but should still sound better than they did originally.
