McIntosh MC-2100 -- Aragon 2004 MKII ... upgrade?
I have a Musical Fidelity A3CR (Stereophile Class A rated I believe for what its worth) currently unused that will be going up for sale soon essentially in that price range. I was going to put it into my second system but it is too big to fit into...
affordable DAC for rock/metal
M,Your Onkyo is a Class D amp I believe. Not sure what design it is (IcePower or other), but I recently acquired an IcePower Class D amp and have found it to be quite good for hard rock/metal type music. The top end is quite smooth and not aggress...

Rooski,I had a pair of IIcs for a good 20 years and know their sound quite well!

Undertow,No easy answerThe recordings are what they are as you point out and are rarely perfect. Better to get what you can out of a variety of recordings regardless of the flaws and not try to make a particular flawed recording sound "right".Only...
affordable DAC for rock/metal
Interesting.I think the choice of DAC will depend on the inherent character of the rest of the system. Personally, I do not want any artificial warmth or charm especially when it comes to rock/pop/metal music. The end results should be neutral, li...

Very cool.I pity the poor styli! That's quite a bumpy ride they go on!I've always thought record playback to be a fascinating thing. It's a lot harder to make a connection and romanticize about pits and bits and bytes, isn't it?So a question for th...
Ohm Walsh vs. Mirage OMD 28
Frazeur1,Yes, the larger adjustable Walshes makes it easier to adjust or optimize the sound to the room and your preferences especially when things change.A parametric equalizer or flexible tone controls on a pre-amp can also accomplish the same, ...

External hard drives and sound quality
Blindjim,Hmm, do you notice deterioration in your digital photos, video or other files stored as well or only with audio files?
The CD Player Lie?
your conclusions do not surprise me.A lot of what people perceive as good or bad in CD playback is purely subjective and a matter of preference. Different strokes for different folks (and systems). Nobody agrees on the best wine or flavor of ice c...
