What is your experience with amp power?
Depends mainly on how far you are from speakers and how loud you want to go. Some speakers will benefit from higher damping factor in particular , others less so. Having said that, more power in a line of amps will never hurt. Much like a bigger ...
LOUDEST Concert and Tinnitus
“The Crystal Ship” Doors tribute band many years ago. Only concert that had prolonged negative effects on my ears. More recently, The big screen at M&T Bank Stadium where the Ravens play routinely shows db levels above 120, which is not a goo...
Need advice on building a system from a mishmash of components!
Take your time and try the different combos and compare. Older gear is always somewhat more unpredictable regarding how well they work and resulting sound plus in the end what sound one prefers is always highly subjective to start with.
Name 3 songs where audio quality and song quality completely align
“Awaken” by Yes on their 50th anniversary live release.   Recorded in Philly I believe. Awesome in every way.
Is Imaging Worth Chasing?
Yes it is worth pursuing to have it all and if you are not getting it something is wrong that probably would not be a big deal to fix.   These days it’s mostly about having just good quality gear including speakers that fit the room and are set up...
New Class D amplifiers
You will get all kind of opinions but bottom line is you have to try it and see if a class d amp works for you. It has for me for many years and I have heard it all at shows, dealers. Etc. Everyone has a spin. Bottom line is class d is as viable a...

@dayglow  Are you really equating the sound of rap on a good hifi to that on a boombox? Oh my……
My opinion;
I think a lot of hifi enthusiasts have it out for rap specifically because their systems melt down trying to deliver the bass in a lot of rap music. Just my opinion regarding rap hate posters here. It is what it is ie music. Some relate others not...
Ray Charles - "Rap is not music"
Reader take note that title of this thread gives you fair warning what to expect in regards to people who think something is true just because that is their opinion.   Rap is music.  Look it up!  Cheers!

Investigating if ultrasound is harming LPs
@larsman yes I agree.  Can’t handle record noise anymore now that we are well into the digital age.  I just got an ultrasonic cleaner and finally I can stand to listen to records more once again.
Investigating if ultrasound is harming LPs
It’s true that dirt and grime on a record results in less treble and detail and adds noise resulting in a “warmer” sound ie relatively more midrange. Take away all that mess and vinyl starts sounding more like digital and vice versa. If you want w...
Investigating if ultrasound is harming LPs
I ultrasound my records and play them just once in order to digitize them to my disk storage for playback from there.  This is for real…..no joke.  Records are delicate little creatures….just one of their faults. Would not want to subject them eve...
Ray Charles - "Rap is not music"
“Ray Charles - "Rap is not music"” You don’t say! I guess that settles it.   Didn’t Bach say that same thing  about Elvis ?  Schoenberg about Pink Floyd?
