Is a FLAT response the IDEAL?
I love how even a topic that has only one possible answer still becomes a debate. Darn audiophiles!  This one was a gimme!
Is a FLAT response the IDEAL?
Yes.  What other kind is there that even could be?
Harbeth 40.3's. Should I buy them?
Agree you don’t want speakers that are too big for the room. If so it means you can go with smaller Harbeths and maybe save some $$$s. Right size it as needed! I auditioned 40.2’s at Deja Vu audio in Northern Virginia a few years back.  Top notch...
Harbeth 40.3's. Should I buy them?
Nothing wrong with those big Harbeths especially if you listen to all kinds of music. Vocals are a particular strength and that means a lot! Is placement/WAF part of the problem? The big Harbeths I have heard were enchanting placed well out from ...
top ten things you learned about HiFi on Agon
Reeling in the years….   I learned how to have a better perspective on things overall. Frankly I also learned there is a lot of BS tossed around regularly and how to just ignore it. Very valuable! Also helped me get over an infatuation with tu...
Fee for home audition
Crutchfield also has a good return policy and offers online support. I bought a Cambridge Evo 150 there awhile back because it was a safe bet for me in that the Evo was a huge experiment and I had no idea exactly how it would turn out. Much of thi...

Why do we stop listening to new music as we get older?
If you love music and do that’s a big mistake!  Explore new horizons!
What are some good things to do when going to an audition
Ear cleaning prior always a good idea if needed.
WHEN DID YOU FINALLY STOP...
If I had any common sense I would stop right now.
What's up with lousy bass on classic rock recordings?
@macg19 thanks. One correction. Piano is commonly used in some rock music. A good quality standard 88 key piano can pretty much do it all. The lowest notes can reach under 20hz and the highest range up to 16khz
What's up with lousy bass on classic rock recordings?
Another thing that helps manage expectations in regards to how recordings sound is to study the frequency range of musical instruments. There are charts on the internet that show this and I have one hanging on my wall. 16-60 hz is considered sub ...
What's up with lousy bass on classic rock recordings?
@dmac67 Baba O Riley I listened in two rooms off same system Cambridge Evo 150 to kef ls50 metas + sub in smaller 12x12 room and in adjacent much larger L shaped room with more full range Ohm F5s, no sub. In both cases the track starts to roll...
