Experience with Townshend Seismic Podiums on Concrete Floor (they're great) One thing I forget to mention, in addition to Isoacoustics stands under my smaller speakers when needed on upper levels of my home, I also use Auralex Subdude platforms under my floor standing bottom ported Ohm Walsh speakers there. The difference...
Experience with Townshend Seismic Podiums on Concrete Floor (they're great) @hilde45 By it I mean the actual impact seismic activity has on most peoples hifis. Also the write up tended to blur the lines between seismic events and other things. Probably done by a marketing guy and signed off on to increase the appeal of ...
Experience with Townshend Seismic Podiums on Concrete Floor (they're great) I read the Townsend website write up on their seismic pods and sorry not buying it. I’m sure they can make a difference in some cases like other similar products can but it doesn’t all add up. I do use much less costly Isoacoustics isolation stan...
Really Inexpensive Systems That Sounded Great? @brad18loseke I have a little Fosi amp as well in one of my systems and was shocked to hear how well it does with kef ls50s. I’ve heard some way more expensive amps fail miserably at that task. A no brainer for <$100.
Sound quality of new vinyl recordings. @ghdprentice its very simple and downsized these days but sound is the best I’ve ever had. Cambridge Evo 150 to Ohm Walsh F5 speakers in one room and kef ls50 metas +sub in another. Phono source is Denon dl103r cart on Linn Axis with Linn Basic ...
Sound quality of new vinyl recordings. Not a fan of putting modern digital masters on an inherently noisy and flawed 100 year old format. Granted the packaging can be very nice.
Is R.E.M. underrated by new music nerds? I recall a dealer system demo back in the 90s of “Radio Song” on my CD copy of “Out of Time” using Dynaudio speakers that put me into system upgrade mode big time. There was so much musical articulation on display with that demo that drew me in an...
The Impossible Has Happened One thing I’ve realized for sure, choosing gear for a beautiful sounding hifi is much like choosing which super model to marry. They are all among the most beautiful things out there. Which do you prefer and why? Inquiring minds want to know but ...
What is the current retail cost of your reference system? ~2/3 less than the prior one.
Do you find yourself turning down the bass on Coldplay albums? Well for example I just streamed Viva la Vida from my ripped music library and nothing special happening bass-wise there. I even measured with a sound meter app to confirm. What is your music source? What else are comparing to? Don’t know why on...
Do you find yourself turning down the bass on Coldplay albums? Only Coldplay?
Do you find yourself turning down the bass on Coldplay albums? Nope. I just let ‘er rip. Check room acoustics including floor interaction if floors are suspended plywood. Isolation pads or stands underneath speakers might help if so. Or just try experimenting with speaker placement. Further from walls and ev...
Best tweak It’s the good old fashioned ear cleaning by a competent ear doctor. If you have never had this done do it now. It’s even a freebie if covered by your medical insurance.
A Skeptics Digital Upgrade Journey If it works out in the end that’s all that matters.
Occasional Sound Imbalance Issue Go no further unless ears are clean. Check each one out one at a time to see if equal. Not to say clean ears are necessarily equal but at least that’s a start. Next would be a hearing test. After that, then you are in business. |
