Speaker power handling
Better watts......are better.Better may mean better for a particular speaker. Some amps do not like hi phase angle loads....impedance being secondary. Some amps of the 'bulletproof' variety can thrive on weird loads. I'd rather have 100 bulletproo...
Magnepan observations.
Hotmail,Keep in mind that 'Youth is wasted on the Young.':: George Bernard Shaw::lol, indeed
Happy with USB DAC? Some rambling included..
Async is a PLUS.If it has any chance of great success, that is what will make it.Firewire would be my 'cost no object' choice.
Good DACs for Apple Airport Express? Or receivers?
Shad is 100%.Jitter from AE would seem to be an 'issue'. The difference is not, however, 'small'. The noise is like fingers on a chalkboard. My CA840 HATES this combo....though when it plays, it is terrific. It just won't lock onto the AE signal, ...
Speaker power handling
going to a 3db more sensitive speaker would be like doubling amp power. Sticking with Focus may preserve 'house sound' you apparently like. Snofun3,I had a Pioneer SX727 a LONG time ago and ended up hating it. Amp? just ok, while the FM tuner woul...
Are there any constants in speaker wire designs?
Kij,That's the way I've been leaning. RLC is a pretty gross description. Doing RLC measures at frequency than doing some kind of complex 3d charting....Maybe some derivation of a Smith Chart may eventually show a pattern worthy of some conclusion....
Sansui AU-D9 at 4 ohms?
I may be pushing my luck here,I usually don't like the 'get this' kind of answer. But in new amps, Onkyo makes (made?) the A-9555 a 'd' integrated which got some pretty descent press. http://stereophile.com/integratedamps/907onk/Test is just now 2 ...
Sansui AU-D9 at 4 ohms?
Your next stop should be minimum of 2x the current power, plus::So, 100 a side? I'd double down again and go for 200 a side. Anything less will not be enough, IMO. The 95 watts of the Sansui won't be enough, I guarantee it. You'll want to trade up...
Room Treatments - How?
room treatment would apparently be one of those areas where 'art meets science'.To get a definite answer is quite impossible. You don't know everything you'd need to know and I doubt anyone knows how it all works to get a 'DO THIS' to get THAT res...
A major disconnect between the audiophile magazine
Want something to compare? Stereophile archives of tests are online. Sometimes, but not often there is a 'revisit'. They did so with my CD player, an original FD1000 sold here as a Magnevox. Kind of fun reading impressions and listening tests from...
Are there any constants in speaker wire designs?
Wire measurables make a difference. Too much capacitance? Too much resistance? Current source amp? Voltage source amp? skin effect? Doesn't seem to be a player. Copper oxide? If it's a semiconductor it also has properties of a resistor. How THICK ...
usb dac for hi-end system
I don't mean to get into the USB / FireWIre debate, but what about Asynchronous USB?Doesn't that clear the board of some of the USB issues? At a substantially higher cost?
Airport Express "local clock" issue?
Null modem serial cable is needed up update the CA840c player. The AE apparently has enough built in clock instability....jitter? that the CA simply doesn't like it. I have heard a similar sheen.....a couple times, come from my DishNetwork receiver...
OSX SNOW LEOPARD - Improvement to iTunes
ITunes is improved separately. I have 9.2.1 and may need yet another 'upgrade'.
Airport Express "local clock" issue?
Kij,Thanks for answer....and more info to be stuck in my 'buffer'.Problem with my system is NOT the 'gap' between tunes. Stereo will simply produce a glassy, nearly fingernails on chalkboard screechy sound at random thruout play. 1. happens on ALA...
