Age old discussion I know but MM or MC? Benefits? lohanimal, What was "different" about the MMC series of cartridges from B&O? I think of them as "not MC" (MM or MI without having done any research). I ask this out of genuine ignorance. I own an MMC2. Thanks.
Age old discussion I know but MM or MC? Benefits? REG of TAS has forever been a proponent of MM cartridges over MC types. This is not to say he is wrong, just to say that he has a longstanding bias that he maintained even when HP was gushing over every new LOMC entry from Japan, back in the 70s ...
Age old discussion I know but MM or MC? Benefits? A further thought. In your price range, which is to say at $600 and below, you might consider the Denon 103 or the Hana SL. Other than those two, I would suggest an MM or an MI, because there you get more bang for the buck.
Age old discussion I know but MM or MC? Benefits? If you wait nine more years, you may have had the honor of starting your own 13K-post thread. Because you have in a way re-stated Raul's question. You cannot expect others to tell you what cartridge you will like. Period. That's just for starte...
Where can I buy or built a subarm base for kenwood l-07d ? Kenwood made 4 or 5 different bases, each was dedicated to one particular tonearm. So even if you find an original it is likely that it would not match the tonearm you want to use. If you are in the US, a machinist named Colby Lamb, located in Ore...
ROGERS PA-1A Phono Rob, I wouldn't necessarily blame the apparent placement of the sound stage on the phono stage alone. First, that is a subjective impression. Second, there are SO many factors that might influence the aural phenomenon, especially starting with y...
TriPlanar tonearm outward skating issue One way in which some designers avoid the issue with the TP, that is the source of so much disagreement here between Raul and the world, is to route the wires so that they exit the arm wand just at or just before or just after the pivot. VPI and B...
Technics SL1200G vs GAE Will either of those "fit" without modifying the mount? Which is to say do either of those two have the same pivot to spindle distance as the stock tonearm? And will, particularly, the Reed mount over the hole in the arm board, since it is a surf...
Alternative mat for SME turntable I have used a Boston Audio Mat2 on several different types of turntables, always with good results. There is no "best" mat; it's a matter of taste and perception.
ROGERS PA-1A Phono $7000?!!!!For that much dough, they might do a better job of stating the S/N specification.
ROGERS PA-1A Phono It's probably possible for "20mV input". To get that high an input signal voltage, you would be using a high output MM cartridge, and it would be reproducing a fortissimo passage of a musical piece. So, in a sense, the spec (90db for 20mV) is a ...
Well Tempered Reference Arm and Koetsu Rosewood Signature Combination The WTR in question was not mine. It belonged to a very close friend who lived in my area. He purchased it way back in the 90s for its list cost of nearly $10K. In his later years, he developed dementia. When his symptoms were still rather mild, I...
Technics SL1200G vs GAE You might look into the notion that the tonearm on the GAE is "better". If it's really better, then maybe you don't need to change the tonearm, and you will thereby "save" probably more than the $1200 difference between G and GAE. That's where I...
TriPlanar tonearm outward skating issue Dear Raul, I don’t feel personally insulted by your response, any more than you should feel personally insulted by what I wrote. However, don’t you think you are being more than a little bit disingenuous, when you chastise Ralph for being a manufa...
input impedance load on a cartridge. I have found that 47K is optimal with LOMCs, using my Atma-sphere MP1, of course. The sound seems a bit more open and extended, compared to using loads of 1000 ohms or 100 ohms. (I have set my MP1 up so I can quickly switch among 47K, 1K, and 100... |
