Turntable Isolation Journey
Mijostyn, You wrote, " The MinusK is so good at it because it is tuned in both the horizontal and vertical directions but put it on an unstable platform and it is a nightmare."  Your sentence is easy to understand and makes superficial good sense,...

Wizzzard, I’d recommend a higher effective mass tonearm to get the very best out of your Koetsu, no matter what the magnet is made of. I’ve owned my Urushi for 14 years; it got better and better as I moved it into progressively higher mass tonearm...
Turntable Isolation Journey
Bracing a rack against a wall could certainly be a good idea, IF the wall itself is not prone to pick up airborne energy from the speakers or vibrate in tune to some local appliance, like maybe a refrigerator if kitchen is next door.  In cases suc...

What's "MP"?  The Nagaoka is an MI so far as I know.

Knotscot, you certainly CAN replace the stylus on an LOMC cartridge. The problem is only cost. You even usually have a choice between replacing the cantilever and stylus in one go or only retipping. However I also am a big fan of the best MM and M...
Gold Note PH-1000 Best Phono Preamp?
He spoke to specific engineers who were personally involved in setting up the most commonly used Neumann lathe. There was complete agreement among them. When I was a kid in the 50s, my parents had a H-K receiver that offered a choice of 2 or 3 equ...

But that’s just a shot in the dark. Don’tcha think?
Micro Seiki ma-505 x is a low or heavy tonarm?
No. Tonearm effective mass and cartridge compliance determine the resonant frequency of the ensemble. Has nothing to do with balancing except insofar as the counterweight and its distance from the pivot do affect the effective mass.
Gold Note PH-1000 Best Phono Preamp?
I just read Fremer's review of the PH1000 in S'phile published in 2022.  He spends most of the space saying why the multiple alternative compensation curves are unnecessary. He offers evidence that RIAA was the standard, almost immediately after t...
Gold Note PH-1000 Best Phono Preamp?
I don't mind the use of the word "best", but if you want to catch the interest of forum members here, it's "best" to follow up that adjective with some reasons why. Tell me what makes the PH1000 so special, in other words.
Any cartridge recommendations for a Grace G-707 arm on a Thorens TD-125 deck?
I think you could find an F9E or Ruby with a little patience. Then get the SoundSmith prefab stylus assembly with sapphire cantilever and CL stylus.
Micro Seiki ma-505 x is a low or heavy tonarm?
I am always puzzled by quotations of tonearm effective mass. Let’s assume 14.5g is the effective mass of the tonearm plus its OEM headshell. To this value, one has to add the mass of the cartridge and mounting hardware. In the case cited, that wou...
Diagnosis Help: Left channel out, turntable ground leads crossed somewhere
Yes, it's more than a problem, it makes balanced drive impossible.  But the symptom is not hum; it's left channel dropout, which suggests an intermittent problem in the hot side of the L channel.  Since it is intermittent, such problems are often ...

The grounds business is a red herring, IMO.
