Thoughts on the Linn LP12 turntable
For me, not having heard a Cosmos but having owned a Star Sapphire Series III for 10 years, what most sets the Cosmos apart is the Eclipse drive system and possibly the magnetic bearing. But that’s 40 years of development. Not that there’s anythin...
Do 5-pole DIN tonearm connectors deteriorate the sound?
Reed and Triplanar can also be purchased optionally with straight cartridge to phono wiring, as were both of mine, to name only two of several other than Schroeder.
Do 5-pole DIN tonearm connectors deteriorate the sound?
In theory, one would think that any connector is worth eliminating when possible, and I have two tonearms with direct wiring from cartridge to phono stage, but in the case of other tonearms I also own and use and that do use the DIN connector, I c...
Thoughts on the Linn LP12 turntable
Marketing. If Linn had renamed their product with each upgrade, we’d be free of the inevitable comparisons between the original LP12 and the current variant, which although an upgraded variant, we’d now call an “LP20” or the like. Psychologically ...
Options for ridding records of static electricity
The felt platter, which is what I think you have on the Cosmos, is a great electron donor to vinyl.  The meter I had in mind is the Simco that our colleague who contributed to this thread uses.  I think he has the FMX-004.  There is also a less ex...
Options for ridding records of static electricity
That's for EMF, not static charge.  With it you can hope to measure the strength of the field around any motor or other electromagnetic device, but not static charge.
Options for ridding records of static electricity
Mijo, you’re not going to get believable data from your questionnaire, apart from the info about geography, unless or until all respondents are equipped with a good static meter and know how to use it properly, that is never. But this discussion l...
Cartridge to turntable price ratio
Why do I say the question is tedious or even meaningless?  Because if you admit the possibility for a pre-owned turntable (and by the way, the tonearm is at least as important), then you cannot pinpoint what "should be" the cost for a given cartri...
SAEC Making Tonearms Again!
Pindac, I was quoting from your post of 5-23-22. You can be forgiven for not recognizing something you wrote a year ago, nearly. I do not at all challenge your judgment of the copper wire that you have been discussing. I have no basis to doubt you...
Luxman PD 151 mk 1 or Feickert Volare
If the platter surface and the tonearm mounting board lie in parallel planes, which means the stylus sits squarely in the groove at 90 degrees azimuth, as should be the case for any well made TT, I’d sacrifice azimuth adjustment for other more imp...
Cartridge to turntable price ratio
These “proper” cost ratio questions are…. tedious.
SAEC Making Tonearms Again!
Dear Pindac, I read in your post above, "larger crystals coalesce with each other, forming monocrystalline areas...."  There must be a semantic issue, but how can coalescing crystals, which implies that the crystals aggregate in some way, result i...
Was I Expecting Too Much
And finally, Jeff Bezos will own us all.
Was I Expecting Too Much
Cbl117, in the present tense, I had no particular dealer in mind. I was thinking of some like experiences I had back in the 70s In Manhattan with Lyric HiFi and some others. When Mike Kay was on the floor at Lyric he was a prince, even with a low ...

By the way, if you are deciding between the two Brinkmann models only, then the odds of your hearing the probably subtle difference between them in a system with which you are not intimately familiar are small.  If between a Brinkmann and somethin...
