Complete vinyl system, TT to speakers, for $1500?
Also, she has a small apartment.  A "small" apartment in Tokyo is very small by our standards in the US. Our son makes a good income there and in the past has lived in very small spaces.  (He just bought a 2-BR unit that is reasonably spacious, bu...
Complete vinyl system, TT to speakers, for $1500?
She wants vinyl.  I don't think she would need my advice to assemble a digital system.  Nor would I have offered to give advice on a digital system. Seems vinyl is doable on her budget, based on the above posts.  The trick is to put oneself in her...
Complete vinyl system, TT to speakers, for $1500?
I am pretty sure she can buy Sony locally.  Sony cameras are all over the place at good prices. And I have no intention to buy anything for her and to ship.  She is quite capable of shopping locally. The audio marketplace in Tokyo is vast.  Thanks...
Complete vinyl system, TT to speakers, for $1500?
Like I said, the prices on US and Euro goods are inflated over there. Price of Reed 3G tonearm was $8800, even taking into account the very favorable exchange rate, yen to USD. As to vintage anything, I think that’s inappropriate for this young wo...
Complete vinyl system, TT to speakers, for $1500?
Was thinking to help her choose equipment she can just buy in Tokyo.  I was in a major store several times, and I think I did see Fluance there.  I'll check out the availability in Japan.

Dekay, thanks. Rega would be costly in Tokyo because made in UK. Might be ok but other suggestions appreciated.

Yes, she’s in Tokyo and we got back to the US yesterday. But my son told her I’m a guru. US and Euro equipment can be more expensive in Tokyo compared to the source countries.
The "Very Best Record Cleaning Formulation"
300 lbs (or whatever and actually has to be based on size of the contact patches and would vary according to stylus shape and stylus wear) would be the force if the contact patches were one square inch.  However, the contact patches are actually a...
Is there a difference between Linn LP12 lingo 1 vs lingo 2 other than the case?
Wouldn’t the 12V motor be a DC type?
Asking for members blessings on Nagaoka MP 300 purchase
Unless you really know the provenance of the used MP500, I’d advise you to suck it up and buy a new MP500.
Asking for members blessings on Nagaoka MP 300 purchase
Big admirer of Nagaoka cartridges, but I advise get the best one you can afford in the MP series.  There's not that much difference in cost last time I looked. (I just bought an MP500 on a lark.)
I need Hign compliance cartridges
Koetsu are low compliance cartridges, for one example.  I think Miyajima cartridges are low in compliance as well.  Most MC cartridges are on the low end of the compliance spectrum, with some notable exceptions. Seems to me that the MC cartridges ...
The damper, the tension wire and cantilever position
Dear Nandric, Kennyc wrote this: "I believe that getting the stylus angle to the groove correct is paramount to good sound, but inconsistencies in manufacturing stylus to cantilever and cantilever to body(?) can cause subpar alignment.  So I'm goi...
Is the Technics SP10R motor controller using a switching power supply
By the way, ddrive, using a step down doesn’t add any sockets or even require a new power cord. They come with a hard wired AC cord. You plug that in wherever you would plug in your TT. The cord from your TT then plugs into the 100V outlets on the...
