Removing power conditioner...
While I found two power conditioners I tried detrimental to the sound of my system, I would strongly recommend that anyone plug into a surge protector, especially if you live in an area with frequent storms. I think anyone on this site has more th...
Worst record ever?
The Shatner/Nimoy things are hilarious - I would add Nimoy's If I Had A Hammer to the others mentioned. They were, of course, done tongue-in-cheek. There is an album out there somewhere called Golden Throats, or something like that, that has I thi...
What does one purchase after owning horns?
Duke, unfortunately that seems to be a dead link.
The downward spiral.....
If we define "progress" as the development of new technologies, then of course there has been progress. However, if we are judging the new technologies on whether or not they actually do sound better than the older ones, then no, there has been ve...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Hi Rgs92 - I do not own an SACD player, so my experience with them is limited - a couple of friends of mine have one, but they live pretty far away and like me, mostly listen to vinyl anyway. Certainly the quality of SACD is higher than redbook, a...
are audiophiles different than non audiophiles ?
Frogman could not have stated the case better. As a professional musician myself, I agree with 100% of his post. There are indeed more audiophiles among musicians than in any other profession, as a percentage, especially when we are talking about ...
Are you too old to be an audiophile?
Thank you Bryon and Elizabeth for excellent posts. I am constantly amazed at how many audiophiles will yabber on about the quality of this or that tube, or the difference between this tweeter and that one, but then cannot tell the difference betwe...
A New Believer
I'm definitely with Al on this one - granted that there are differences, the prices of wire are truly absurd compared to the amount of the audible difference made. I agree with Elizabeth; wire should constitute no more than 5% of the entire system...
listening in the dark?
While I do not limit my listening to the dark, it is most certainly true that depriving yourself of one of your five senses heightens the others.
are audiophiles different than non audiophiles ?
Elizabeth, that is a hilarious description - it also fits most orchestral musicians.
Integrated or speakers
As I always like to say - if you don't like the sound of your speakers, you won't like the sound of anything else in your system.

Another very good reference for beginners is Robert Harley's Complete Guide to High End Audio
HELP Rega P-7; VPI Classic 2; Scout 2 or ?
I would suggest that the P5 is probably better value for the money than the P7. I would also guess that if you like the sound of your P3, that you will probably prefer the Rega sound to the VPI. Certainly both are fine tables.
Are The Klipsch Heritage Series Really Worthy?
I would agree with most everything Br3098 posted here. I would also add the Cornwalls to his list, if you want something a little bit smaller for space reasons, I had to do. And some Klipsch fans actually prefer the Cornwalls to the La Scala's. I ...
need advice for budget preamp for Rega p3-24...
I use the Bellari with my P5, and that is a good combo. However, the only other one I have had in my system was the Project Tube Box SE, which was nowhere near as good, especially for full scale orchestra/opera.
