Cat-proofing your speakers...
If the cat is de-clawed, it should be no threat at all to your equipment. If you are not willing to de-claw it, then that may be an issue. One of ours is de-clawed, and the other isn't, but neither of them ever scratches at my floorstanders.
which ProAc speaker?
The Studio 140's are good speakers, I almost bought a pair once. I haven't heard the D series.
LP care
Hi Dawgfish - I heartily recommend the Audio Intelligent system of three different fluids. They are quite a bit better than anything else I have tried, and everyone I know that has tried them has continued to use them as well. As for re-cleaning, ...
Does 'Accuracy' Matter or exist ?
Frogman, I couldn't agree more. One of my favorite Mahler quotes, too!
Classic records reissue - very disappointing
Hmmm, perhaps I have only heard the more recent Classics reissues. I can only repeat that every one I have ever heard has sounded downright bad, especially compared to the original release of the same recording, and also compared to other popular ...
Does 'Accuracy' Matter or exist ?
Hi Onwhy61 - thanks for explaining! While the variables you speak of are not insignificant, I must agree with Frogman - all halls have an "easily identified, inherent, signature sound" which will still be there despite these variables - and the sa...
Classic records reissue - very disappointing
The Classic reissues I have heard of orchestral music all sounded terrible, FWIW. And unfortunately, I agree 100% with Elizabeth when she says "The skilled record pressers are all retired. The new guys have no one to learn from." One can also subs...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
The latest part of this thread reminds me of one of my favorite Peter Schickele quotes, in his PDQ Bach stuff: "Truth is truth. You can't have opinions about truth."
Does 'Accuracy' Matter or exist ?
Onhwy61 wrote: "Is that Ella's voice in 1952 singing into an RCA ribbon mic or Ella in 1964 using a Neumann condenser? Is that the sound of Carnegie Hall from the the first level under the balcony or from the second mezzanine? Are all the seats fi...
Does 'Accuracy' Matter or exist ?
Frogman, you have once again contributed a fantastic post. The thing I find ironic here is that quite often those audiophiles that claim to be searching for "accuracy" are often the very same ones that get completely caught up in specs and measure...
Getting New Panasonic ST30 Plasma TV
My calibration I think cost somewhere in the $200 range, it was mostly for the guy's time, as it did take quite a while. I could now do it myself, but I would say that it was a very good value, as I would not have known how to go about it previous...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
LOL, Bryon - nice one, bringing out Bierce!
Getting New Panasonic ST30 Plasma TV
You will love your plasma - I agree with those saying dial down the brightness. I had mine professionally calibrated after the recommended burn-in period and that is exactly what the guy did. I took good notes so I can do it myself in the future. ...
Do all CD players benefit from burn in?
I have usually seen the figure of 50 hours quoted for CD players, which was about right for mine. Things like tubes will take a little longer, more like the 200 hour figure.
advice about analogue source
If you like the sound of your Rega, the P9 is a really great table.
