What Is So Special About Harbeth?
I had Harbeth Super HL-5's for about 7 or 8 years; they are wonderful speakers with a great mid-range and treble; if you want bass, a sub-woofer would be recommended. I think they're best for jazz, classical, and more acoustic music. I'm a rocker,...
What does the word audiogon even mean?
It means whatever you want it to mean....
DACs and more. Is there a good analog sounding DAC.
I would also say that for a more 'analog' sounding DAC, look into the various R2R options out there (I've got a Holo May DAC myself, and it's wonderful)....

@simonmoon - that is very cool! I'm familiar with Moby Disc, though we didn't have that up here in San Francisco, where I've lived since '73. In the '74-'76 era, one of the big stations in San Jose, KOME, was all prog, all the time - it was brilli...
Highend tube preamp w/no headphone jack - help I wanna get a pair of phones
@soix - Totally agree - I used a Quicksilver Headphone amp for about 6 months before I replaced it with an Eddie Current Studio B; that Quicksilver, for under $1000, is a GREAT DEAL!!!!
GO CHIEFS !!
They went.
Ripping CDs to Hard Drive and Live Recordings
I agree - that stuff CAN be annoying. I often have to go into iTunes and rename album or song titles, or artists's names...
Books!
Books are 95% crap? With all due respect, that might win the prize for the most absurd blanket statement about anything that I've ever heard.
Tiny Room (6' x 9') speaker advice
Check out the website for Fritz Speakers; the sound they produce is amazing for such small speakers, and they actually can put out bass you can feel, and they're around the price range you are looking at. I believe he's got a trial period as well....

You should at least look into a real headphone amp; what kind of budget would you be looking at?
Would appreciate a group consensus on Agon purchased amps
I think an included cheapo stock cable that you can get for a few bucks on Amazon is a 'nice-to-have' in case you don't have any extra power cables around and you want to make sure the device works, but it's not something I would get bent out of s...
Your method for discovering great music.
I read reviews in print or online publications that have similar tastes to mine, Then I'll go to Qobuz or something and check it out if something seems like it would appeal to me....
R&R HOF Snubs
I like most of the artists mentioned here. I don't like 'Halls of Fame' or Grammies. This is about art, not statistics, so it should not be a contest. Most of my favorite musical artists are not in the Hall of Fame and never will be, but it bother...

@paulg1966 - Yes indeed, I do like my prog right along with my metal, punk, post-punk, and reggae! People who like long, complex pieces should enjoy 'Plague of Lighthouse Keepers' if it doesn't scare them off. I love Peter Hammill, but I laughed ...

@paulg1966 - good post! To me and many others, Steven Wilson is kind of the King of 21st Century prog rock - just check out the massive amount of music he's put out both under his own name and with his band Porcupine Tree. Great with sound as well...
