What's your favorite lyric from a song?
@cd318 - Holy cow - another fan of Inspiral Carpets! 'This Is How It Feels' is one of my favorites of their's (beautiful melody, too), along with the 'Revenge of the Goldfish' album....
what’s a song cover that you think is better than the original?
The Animals' version of 'House of the Rising Son' kind of redefined it like Hendrix did with 'Watchtower'....
what’s a song cover that you think is better than the original?
I think Dionne and Burt are a wonderful combo, but I don't have any records by them, whereas I do have every Stranglers album featuring Hugh Cornwell. Very different indeed, but personally I wouldn't say either is 'better' - vive la differance!
E-bay and its sellers
@tcotruvo - there are some bad buyers and sellers on eBay? Who would have guessed? 😀 Also, some sellers may consider absurd low-ball offers as insults to their intelligence and will respond accordingly, and I totally understand that.
How did you get started in this hobby
Back in 1975 or so, I went to a hi-fi show at San Francisco Civic Auditorium where I got to see all these high end brands and associated gear. SF Civic Auditorium was also a good-sized live music venue, so they had Sensational Alex Harvey Band and...
Does remote control degrade the sound of tube preamps?
I doubt I'd hear any difference at all, and the convenience of having the remote would far outweigh any miniscule difference there could possibly be. I've got a Herron Audio tube preamp, and I think at one point, Keith Herron did not offer remote...
Isn't it really about quality of recording?
I listen a lot with my Susvara headphones and my tube headphone amp, and that really reveals the good and bad of the recording. But yes, even not-so-great recordings are very enjoyable through this, though it's noticeable that it could have been b...
Quality of recording
I'd say most all of them do that want to sell any quantity of music; nobody is depending on audiophiles to sell music to except for MoFi and the like....  I know back a few decades ago - they might still do, I dunno -  producers would often liste...
what’s a song cover that you think is better than the original?
@pesky_wabbit - Before I even looked to see what the link went to, I was thinking, 'my favorite version of 'Walk On By' is by the Stranglers!!'  Big Stranglers fan, here...
what’s a song cover that you think is better than the original?
I don't know if it's better than the original, 'cause 'Billie Jean' was a pretty great song to begin with, but the late, great Chris Cornell slowed it down to almost a blues type of song, and he puts so much feeling into the lyrics; I really under...
Suggest one obsure album we all should hear
@nutty - Indeed it was, Nutty! I think there were 2 Paris albums that came out. I was fortunate enough to see them at Winterland in San Francisco in the mid-70's... Bob Welch was very underrated...
Suggest one obsure album we all should hear
@nutty - Paris was a band that Bob Welch started in 1975....
Music for the Pacific Audiofest show
Diana Krall! Norah Jones!! 🤣🤣
what’s a song cover that you think is better than the original?
@painter24 - I'm so with you on the merits of Graham Nash. Nothing against the guy - I loved him in the Hollies and he's a fine photographer, but his CSN(Y) songs, to me, are about the most insipid things I've ever heard (and back then, I listened...
what’s a song cover that you think is better than the original?
@painter24 - I much prefer the JA version of 'Wooden Ships', and Paul Kantner did co-write it with Crosby and Stills. But then, I like JA a whole lot more than I do CSNY anyway.
