Home theater crossover question
Javachip is certainly correct about the localizability of the sub when it is asked to perform much above 80Hz but that was not the problem asked about. In fact, I see more problems in lowering the crossover from 200Hz to 80Hz, more than an octave,...
Home theater crossover question
You are confusing two things. The crossover for the fronts will, indeed, send everything below 200Hz from those channels to the subwoofer and the sub will reproduce all of it (assuming the sub is capable).OTOH, the crossover for the sub is set at ...
Subwoofer setting
Yes, the in-room response is quite relevant but the vast majority of people have no way to measure that and must rely on the printed specs, if any.Kal
Subwoofer setting
General rule is 1/2 or whole octave above the main speaker's -3dB point. Unfortunately, the spec you quote does not tell us that but, assuming 60Hz was the -3dB point, I would recommend 80 or 120Hz.Kal

3 channel tube amp for home theater?
"If I used a five channel amp, does the Home Theater Receiver get replaced with something like a Home Theater Preamp/Processor?" Yes, many with more coming next week at CES." If so, how do you output the proper signal voltage to the monoblocs from...
How to diagnose the need for room treatment?
Good point about the Haas effect. One should also note that there is a lower limit to time interval needed for distinguishing direct from reflected/delayed signals. If the arrival interval is on the order of 5msec +/-, the signals are not distingu...
How to diagnose the need for room treatment?
If you are trying to assess room acoustics based on system throughput, aiming the mic forward, or at any speaker, biases the results to the performance of that speaker. Pointing it upwards makes for the least biased results. Also, averaging more t...
What should be my next upgrade? Speakers?
"Those that don't mention cables can usually use better ones."Those that don't mention cables are probably paying attention to the items that have a much greater influence. Kal

How to diagnose the need for room treatment?

How to diagnose the need for room treatment?

DSP / Analog Eq / room treatments
You would have to route your music through the PC in order to have a "Any real time convolution program that can handle wav files with 32 bit floating point words can be used." Access should be digital to avoid redundant conversions. So, unless yo...
