Aesthetix Calypso VS ARC Reference 3
What you think you hear is not what you hear.I agree, the experience of hearing is not thinking. Sometimes the best listening involves no thinking at all. Audio ergo sum,Tim
Preamp Experiences with Atma-sphere Amps
Here is some of what I've learned about tubes in the MP-1 Mark III:As you stand facing the MP-1 with its cover off, the 6SN7 tube closest to the front panel in each channel has the most sonic influence on the linestage. The three 12AT7s aligned in...
Preamp Experiences with Atma-sphere Amps
I use a Shunyata Helix Python on my MP-1, with that plugged into a Hydra V-Ray, and Shunyata Helix Taipans on MA-1 amps.Significant improvement came with insertion of NOS 6SN7s in the line stage and NOS 12AT7s in the phono section of the MP-1. Lik...
New Re-Issue Vinyl: Surface Noise, Ticks, Pops....
I can't speak for Audiofeil, but I think there is truth in his and Stiltskin's general point that one's system can make a real difference to enjoyment of vinyl or any other medium. The hobby generally seems to embrace that notion. For me, the qual...
Audio Physic Avanti vs Avanti Century
You may find information in this review Send me an e-mail and I will respond with a couple pictures of an Avanti Century. Tim
Are Atma-Sphere MP-1 and VSE RTP-3D similar?
Do any of you know how quiet the line section of the MP-1 is?Though I don't think I've taken the volume control past 12 o'clock, the line section of the MP-1 Mk.III is very quiet. To speak to Dgarretson's query, the Mk III's phono stage delivers ap...
Loricraft thread type
That seems a reasonable price - where did you order from? Thanks. Tim
Loricraft thread type
The thread that comes with the Loricraft is nylon. Cotton can leave fibers or static, and may carry dirt wicked into itself across a record. Let us know if you come across an inexpensive alternative nylon thread. On a spool from Loricraft is this: ...
Finding ultra-pure water locally...
With the record mounted on my Loricraft, I squirt water on it, then turn on the platter and hold a carbon fiber brush to the surface so the water gets distributed as the platter turns. Then vacuum off the water.
Aethetix IO Signature Question
...once I can secure the lid with no more tube trials...I can appreaciate that! My speakers got spiked far sooner than my preamp's top was screwed down, and even now that was too soon. Fortunately the MC load resistor terminals reside on the outsi...
Mogami balanced cables .... or another brand?
For Mogami 2534 Quad Mic cable try:http://www.redco.com orhttp://www.thecablefactory.net/audio-cables-199/microphone-cables-28/mogami-xlr-microphone-cable-728.htmlA 50ft XLR terminated cable is around $65-$75.I had Redco make a 30ft pair to try be...
Preamp Experiences with Atma-sphere Amps
I've used a Conrad Johnson ACT2 with both the M-60s and the MA-1s - both of those the mk.III versions. Though the cabling was limited to single-ended RCA, with 3 meter ICs the CJ had a good grip on the amps. Its a preamp flush with virtues and the...
Anyone rolled tubes in an ARC Reference 3 preamp?
I agree that introducing vintage 6DJ8 family tubes in, say, an ARC PH7 phonostage, can yield a much broader range of results (almost all favorable) than rolling 6H30s.I did a comparo of stock 6H30-EB, cryoed 6H30-EB, and 'NOS' 6H30-DR in a CJ ACT2...
Anyone using Graham IC-70 w/ SME V?
To avoid exactly the issue you encountered, I specify a phono cable with the straight-in 5-pole 'DIN' and not the right-angle version. And, as you know, the SME V cable input has a slot on the side for a guide key, so that also needs to match up i...
Vinyl vs. digital: what am I doing wrong?
You're probably not doing anything wrong and it looks like you're putting together a very nice system. From your descriptions and pics, and without me knowing more, my suggestions would be: a) in line with Audiofeil's comments (above) - your table...
