Cable to amp for Cj Premier 16
The Premier 16 is a delightful preamp. I had excellent results between it and a pair of Premier 12s as well as a Premier 140 using these cables:FMS Zero - excellent dimensionality and harmonicsKimber 1030 - clear, even handed across the frequency ...
Triplanar RCA out to Balanced out for MP-1
An interesting thing about break-in - especially if you've never heard the gear before - is gauging when it is complete. How long does one go without hearing changes before assessing break-in is finished? If one knows a fully broken-in piece, then...
Surface Noice, yubes and solid state
Two comments: 1. Check the comments in this thread on tubes and use of feedback in a phono preamp.2. I do not have a generalized conclusion valid beyond the unit's I have heard. In a recent review comparison between the tubed Atmasphere MP-1 pream...
Triplanar RCA out to Balanced out for MP-1
Nice job on the step-by-step documentation Thom - the pictures considerably add to the explanation. Thanks for taking the time to create it.My MP-1 took roughly 120hrs to flesh out the full measure of harmonics it is capable of delivering. The V-...
Cartridge loading for Pass Labs Xono
A general view says higher impedance will yield more sparkle or sizzle. This can compensate for a dead room or exacerbate a live one. Unless you've got a moving magnet, start at 100 Ohms and go up in 500 Ohm increments, then come back down in sma...
Best Phono Stage within 2000 $
$1.5k to $2.5k is a tough price point for phono stages. Of course there are many units in that range, but very few not significantly bettered at the $3k-$4k range. While it seems obvious that more money will get a better product, the jump in qual...

Violin concertos/Symphonies....
Try the 4th movement of Shostakovich's Symphony No.12: "step by ponderous step, the inexorable carapace of proletarian praxis rides athwart the imperial walker of historical inevitability."
Speakers that reveal bad recordings? Not for me.
If a system does not reveal bad recordings for what they are, could there be less chance it will release the magic of really well made ones? There is no right answer, but the one that works best for you. If we assume the recording is what it is, ...
Walker Audio Prelude Record Cleaning Question -
Is their a good source you can buy the NERL Reagent grade water??Google is your friend. I suggest using 'NERL 9800-5' as search terms. A quick look finds ~$32.00 on this page - don't know about shipping. Here: https://www.utechproducts.com/dept.as...
Walker Audio Prelude Record Cleaning Question -
I'm in agreement with Hdm's post.Having compared the Walker Prelude water with the 9800-5 NERL Diagnostics Reagent Grade water I hear no sonic difference between either used with both the old (2x water) and new (1 water + 1 hi-rez rinse) Prelude ...
Preference for separate phono stages?
who feels that a single-chassis line/phono stage is a compromise? Do the advantages of a dedicated power supply mechanical and electromagnetic separation outweigh the disadvantage of another pair of interconnects? Over the past couple years I've c...
Audio Research Ref 3 vs Atma-Sphere MP-1 mkIII
Let me offer a slightly different take on what I think Tvad may be describing. I'm not sure that the MP-1 presents an inherently closer or further view of the soundstage. In other words, I don't think its a front row vs. mid hall preamp. Although...
PC sugguestions for Atma-sphere amps and preamp
I use Shunyata power cords with my MA-1s and MP-1. That would be the Python Helix and Taipan Helix (they get switched around depending on what else is in house.) Worked quite well with the M-60s, when they were here.
