Why do some volume controls start at -80db or..?
So who are the engineers placating? The customer or themselves? On occasion when I load up some music I'll set the volume to say "50" on my KCT preamp and walk away while it gets ready to play. Simple enough. On the Yamaha receiver setting to "-24...
How to clean speaker grilles
I use an compressed air. Works well.-JD
cd's/SACDS to test highs?
There is a song on Moody Blues "Days of Future Passed" that has probably one of the highest notes that I've heard in a song. I believe it is "Evening Time to Get Away". It floats back and forth between the right and left speaker a couple times thr...
Your favourite Internet Radio Station in 2011?
Radio Paradise. The sound quality is awesome. Every time I go to turn it off I end up turning it up. -John
Recordings with BASS
Paula Cole, 1st song on This Fire album "Tiger".Soundtrack from the first Pirates of the Carribean movie.Better tack down mammas antiques when these two play. They both also hit both ends of the sonic spectrum and will put your system to the test....

The ignorance of SACD & DVD-A marketing idiots....
I like this little mini rant thread. My wife bought an Acura and it has a DVD-A player in it. I went to try and buy her some and the price was thru the roof. $20-$30 and up for a stinkin' CD? No wonder the music industry is in a turmoil. Even stan...
How old is too old?
You dont get too old to listen, you only get old if you stop listening. Now if we had tone controls we could adjust for our hearing deficiencies. Oh wait, thats for the other post...-John
Why Do You Still Have Vinyl if You Don't Play it?
I ask myself the same question once in a while. I actually played a few last night "just cause". I hope when I retire I will have the time to stop what I am doing and flip the darn thing over. It seems Americans are always so busy we dont take the...
2 Channel Amp for Surrounds: Need Recommendations
Prior to moving into a big $ amp I had a Yamaha MX-1. It is thin, makes great clean sound and does not creat a lot of heat at all. I still regret selling it, as I always figured it would work great for an application such as yours.Good luckm John
Does anyone "throw away" Lp's ?
Yup. Pink Floyds " Umma Gumma ". LP sucked so bad, but it made a wonderfull Frisbee. Two Frisbees actually...-John
Help My Nautilus B&W 804's 'pop' at loud volumes.
I had the same problem years ago. Turned out to be something in the amp. The mfg had to replace some parts. I agree with Tmsorosk, see if you can try a different amp to help isolate the problem.Good luck, John
Audioengine W1, interferes with my wifi, fix?
Thanks for the input. More work as you mentioned above is in order. I'll give it a shot. Thanks, John
Benchmark dac - why such diverging opinions?
I bought one & love it. Why? It pumps out awesome sound quality when I play music from my PC laptop through Itunes, internet radio stations & my CD player (Sony SCD333es). It worked first time I plugged it in with no techno work involved. ...
