Cartridges: Complete Scam? Well this is a remarkable thread. I rarely agree with Raul :-) but this time he's hit it on the head. The OP doesn't seem to understand that we call it a "stereo SYSTEM" for a reason, and the most important component is himself - his ears, brain, ...
On Step Ups and the Importance of Managing Gain Don't mean to hijack this thread but this has me wondering. Is it worthwhile to add a SUT just to get about 12 dB of gain? I have a cart that puts out 1mv (Zyx 4D Mono) so it's just in the middle of the range - a bit low output for a MM stage, but...
I have joined in the ZYX Family It never would've occurred to me to gainsay the Zyx packaging. I think it's cute, well done and very japanese (complete with charmingly mangled English in the manual). And those pretty cloth bags - I fill them with sand and use them for damping. ...
"Straight" talk +1 do it by ear. Especially if you have a dual pivot on your vpi arm wand - makes it easy peasy and you don't mess up your vtf every time you adjust it. And also if like me your fozgo stopped working and you don't want to Spring for another one
What direction is VPI headed? @tooblue you're absolutely right - there was no VPI bashing in your original post and in most of the responses. I'm responding to a general theme that crops up in threads here on A'gon, which I think is unfair. But I should have clarified that I...
What direction is VPI headed? OMG more VPI bashing... what a waste of time! they're a great family company in a complicated market and they're staying afloat while negotiating a generational transition. Yet they still make top notch products and in my experience they're a mode...
Audio desk pro vs. Clear audio double matrix Very happy so far with the Audio Desk Pro machine. I got in cheap on a used older machine (otherwise wouldn't have taken the plunge) but the water pump eventually failed. Upgraded to the "Pro" machine and I haven't had any issues. The ease of use...
VPI 2nd Pivot for 3D @tooblue answers are No and Yes, respectively.
VPI 2nd Pivot for 3D I didn't care much about the wobbly unipivot. For me the improvement of the 2nd pivot is mostly sonic - in imaging and dynamics - and also the fact that you can easily adjust the azimuth without altering the VTF.
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ... Pani - I seem to remember that you were using an EMIA MC step up before. Do you have a feel for how the EMIA and the Audio Note trannies compare? I guess the S8 is a lot higher up the chain in price.
VPI 2nd Pivot for 3D same here. easily worth the $150 for a noticeable improvement.
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ... Wow - so what cart would you be looking at to replace the ART9? I didn't realize it but the ART9 output is a little highish at .5mv
review iPhono 2 @audiofun - would you mind saying which $10k phono stage you’re referring to? Just curious
Record Cleaning Mystery Do you hear anything different from your cartridge? If I were you I'd make sure your stylus isn't damaged before proceeding. I know this from painful experience. Once by sheer coincidence my stylus got damaged just after I bought a new record cle...
Record Cleaning Mystery what does the 'fuzz' look like? is it dust, or a darker material? if number two, you should take a look at your stylus with good magnification. if it's dust, does it come from your record sleeves? paper can leave a lot of dust in my experience. ... |
