Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
I finally got a chance to compare the ART9 to my Zyx UNIverse Premium, so I’m posting the results here as promised. The comparison is a bit silly since the cartridges are separated by an order of magnitude in price. It's clearly an unfair 'fight'....
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better?
@atmasphere  - wow that's really interesting and helpful, thanks.
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better?
@jsm71 you describe my own thoughts on this well! I’m sure that at the top end of the spectrum there’s a rough parity between vinyl and digital at this point. But there are a number of reasons why I don’t get the "bug" to go after that high end so...
VPI cartirdge alignment?
Any reason you don't want to try VPI's solution of installing a spacer between the cart and the tonearm?  That seems a lot easier than modifying the clips or the tonearm wires.  I've had this problem with an older VPI arm (JMW 10) and a Denon 103....

Audio Technica ART9 sounds awful
@sfall  there's no disagreement here. there's a good discussion of the break in issue as regards the ART9 cartridge in the Agon thread devoted to that cartridge (link below). Ironically I was one of the people arguing for the validity of break in ...
Audio Technica ART9 sounds awful
+1 on almarg's idea. I don't think break-in is the issue here. the cart should sound great from the get-go, and get better.
For VPI owners with 3D tonearm bases
if alternating cartridges is the aim, then all you need is another (or a few) compatible VPI armwands. I did the same upgrade. With that arm base you can use a 3D arm wand or a JMW 10.5 wand (or Classic 3). The latter are cheaper, and if you get o...
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better?
@tubegroover thanks for your answer, that makes a lot of sense. In hindsight I thought my post was a bit shrill and I even considered deleting it.  But you have it right - it sort of goes with the territory, and the lack of "hearing" in our societ...
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better?
@jbhiller That NAD sounds interesting - I hadn't heard of it.  I like the Hugo a lot (people say it sounds 'analog' lol) but it's a bit high maintenance because of its small size, so one day I'd like to get something more hefty like the NAD.  with...
Adventures in Table Shopping
No offense but these anecdotal, individual encounters don't say much about a business, in my opinion. Every retail outlet has its pluses and minuses, including Goodwin's. The guy you mentioned is probably the new person at the counter - I've spoke...
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better?
- @randy-11if you think that vinyl sounds better, then your system is inadequate and you need a more resolving system with a better DACcould you give some detailed evidence for that claim?  here's some evidence for the other side.  My digital set-...
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better?
@geoffkait "The assumption here is that all modern music is digital and all mastered the same."Geez, talk about a Strawman argument. I never heard anyone make that assumption. I made that assumption earlier in this thread. @atmasphere was referrin...
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better?
The assumption here is that all modern music is digital and all mastered the same. Its not.@atmasphere great point! thanks
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better?
I agree that the premise is a bit funky, even if I prefer analog.  For one thing, "better" depends on what music you're listening to.  If you only listen to contemporary music, I doubt you're better off trying to hear it all in vinyl. No point in ...
