VPI Traveller
Another cartridge to add to the growing list of works well with VPI is the Sumiko Blackbird.
Frequency Response?
AFAIK, yes, the driver will continue to attempt to reproduce lower frequencies. Usually manufacturers measure their speakers with a -3db range. So it sounds as if your speakers are down 3 db at 40 hz. Depending on the slope of the crossover will d...
Legacy Studio circa 1990?
Sigh....it never ceases to amaze me how some folks can totally trash quality audio equipment. If you don't like the finish of your speakers, sell them and buy a finish that pleases you....sheesh.
Amp and speaker matching.
The answer is definitely maybe. Yes, your Danes lower sensitivity is an issue. If 3.4 ohms is their low point, that's not too much of a concern since most tube amps have 4 ohm taps as well as 8 ohm taps. Bigger questions are about the size of the ...
Upgrade Phonostage
Personally, I wouldn't bother. I did not go through the upgrade process like Jfrech did, but I did own a new BAT VK-P10SE with Super-Pak for a year or so. I wound up replacing it with a Klyne 7PX 5.0 which I thought was much better. That Klyne was...
Buying top brands's older CD players: Pros& Con
Hifiharv makes a good point about designed obsolescence. This is done to keep folks buying. That being said, I think the claimed digital progress is over-rated. I'm still very happy with a 8 year old CDP. I have heard better, but it would cost a L...
Tube Preamp Paired with Tube Phono Stage?
Well now it seems that I agree with Larryi. :) Lot's of folks ask for advice, and if they know what they want you can kind of guide them in a general direction. However, there is absolutely no substitute for listening in your own system/room, with...
Nordost Cable Sale
Oh, I didn't think you wanted to spend that much on one cord. Your plan sounds great! The Brahma uses (2) 16 gauge conductors for both legs instead of the Vishnu's (1) 16 gauge per leg. (2) 16 gauge = 13 gauge, which should be able to handle power...
Tube Preamp Paired with Tube Phono Stage?
Well it appears as if Larryi and myself are in complete disagreement. That's ok, that's why they make so many different flavors.I do have to say that I don't agree that "balancing" rarely works out as planned. In fact, I believe that we all balanc...
Nordost Cable Sale
Well you'd have to clarify "moderately priced", as this can mean many things to many people. That said, I think the VH Audio Flavor 4 and Airsine are considered to be very good value power cords. They are a bit different than the Nordost though, a...
Tube Preamp Paired with Tube Phono Stage?
Hey Steve, experiment, have fun. Tubes are great where ever you put them. Personally, I've found that my favorite systems have tube preamp and amp, but SS phono. Sorry. Then again, that's using LOMC's in the 0.24 mV range. Your cartridge puts out ...
Nordost Cable Sale
Roubaixpro, the Vishnu should be fine for preamp and pre-pro. I wouldn't use it for the amp though, due to using only (3) 16 gauge conductors I wouldn't think the Vishnu would be applicable for power conditioners or power amps.
size of the driver
Smaller bass drivers have gained in popularity for two reasons.A) They allow the speaker designer to make the speakers smaller, so they usually "image" better.B) they may not go quite as deep, but the bass will be tighter.AFAIK, Sensitivity has no...
Nordost Cable Sale
Roubaixpro, I didn't answer the second part of your question, yes, I do think it will make a difference in sound quality. I have owned Nordost Brahma and Valhalla power cords before.
Nordost Cable Sale
Roubaixpro, I plan on using the Brahma on my Coda Model 11 power amp. I have some good cords on my other gear, but my amp is further away, and it needs a flexible 2 meter cord. The 4-5 foot cords I have won't reach the amp.IMHO, from all of my exp...
