Warm Sounding Speakers A few to consider: Dynaudio, Proac, Sonus Faber, Vienna Acoustics, Verity Audio.
No mention of Carroll Shelby passing? Usually no mention here unless they have some ties to music. There is no general or water cooler forum here. That is why there was no mention of Eugene Polley's passing on May 22 2012. Polley was the inventor of the remote control in 1955. I think...
Noise/distortion coming out of speakers Mlsstl sounds like he has the problem nailed. Noisy potentiometer. Look to see if it is a sealed unit or not, if not, a contact cleaner spray can fix the problem right up.
Best beer Arrogant Bastard Ale - YOU are not worthy.
Impedance matching Mcintosh MC2301 and Shindo pre I'm seeing both Shindo preamps display an output impedence of 600 ohms. Doing the math it looks like a 78:1 ratio. Either preamp should work fine.
Personal Preamp Evolution - May 2012 I can't even begin to put that list together. I've owned probably 20-35 preamps in my life. I couldn't put them in any particular time sequence. Sometimes I even owned 3-4 preamps at one time. Whew!!! My head hurts just thinking about it.
For money Quality which is better arcam or NAD? Which is more reliable? You might want to try Consumer Reports for that answer.
XLO cables Tpreaves answer is correct. Since purple does have some red in it, (red and blue make purple)you could use the purple as red if that helps you keep it straight. You certainly could use the green as red too, as long as the + and - are connected wit...
Why is the market for used Levinson amps so slow? Tmsorosk, I humbly agree to disagree. I will agree that Krell and Levinson spent the most money on advertising and marketing, but you can't convince me that Rowland was a bigger name than Threshold 'back in the day'.
Why is the market for used Levinson amps so slow? Tmsorosk, first of all, it's Rowland, as in Jeff Rowland. Secondly, no it wasn't the big 3, everyone knows that no high end SS list is complete without Nelson Pass and his Threshold/Pass designs. Some might argue that Boulder and others deserve to...
Why do I like Class AB better than Class A? Minor1, there are some amps out there that have a switch between high bias (Class A) and low bias (Class AB). The OP's Plinius SA-100 mk III is one such of these amps. Clayton Audio also had amps that used to do this. There may also be others that...
Explain Class A amp to non audiophile friends LOL! Reading over this thread I think that Buconero117 has the best explanation, that being no explanation. I very, very rarely try to explain any of my "crazy" hobby to "normal" people. I find it frustrating, much like trying to teach a pig to si...
Explain Class A amp to non audiophile friends In Class A, the bias current is turned on to the transistors all of the time. Meaning that the transistors are always on and ready to reproduce the signal. In a Class AB amp, the signal triggers the current to the transistors, turning the transist...
Tube Preamp Paired with Tube Phono Stage? Actusreus, Mehran at SORAsound carries Klyne, though I don't know about his auditioning policies. Klyne preamps are very rare and hard to find. Stan Klyne builds and repairs them all by hand. He could easily grow bigger, but he doesn't care to. He...
Listening habits and LP storage Madfloyd, unlike most of the other responders here, I am like you, with my system and maybe 80 LP's on the ground floor with my collection in the basement. So I do have a 'heavy rotation' section going. I try to rotate LP's at least on a monthly b... |
