Why not look for a Threshold T2 to mate the S/500 II with?
Why do I like Class AB better than Class A?
Interesting, I'm wondering if there may be something wrong with the amp. I've owned 3 Class A amps, but only one of them had the ability to switch between Class A and AB, and even that wasn't a pure Class AB, it was more of a Class A/AB. That amp ...
Why does better power = better sound?
IMHO, there is no denying that cleaner power = better sound, the question comes to how far one is willing to go. I went to a fellow audiophiles home to buy an amp and he was kind enough to show me his various systems. WOW!! The most incredible set...
Why is the market for used Levinson amps so slow?
I don't think the high efficiency/low power setups have any effect on the Levinson market. I do think that more folks now are using tube amps. Two gents that I know who used to be Levinson owners are now running tube amps. Not the flea powered SET...
Why is the market for used Levinson amps so slow?
Rhijazz, I believe that was covered by Charles1dad in the first reply.
Tube Preamp Paired with Tube Phono Stage?
The KAB calculator considers preamp gain period. That's phono preamp + preamp gain. So the calculator said I needed 63 db and I had 66 + 22 = 88db of gain. Way more than enough. I probably could have gotten by with a phono stage with a 50-54 db of...
Tube Preamp Paired with Tube Phono Stage?
Actusreus, how much gain does your preamp have? As Layyi mentioned, his preamp has 13 db of gain, mine has 22 db of gain. Either when combined with a 60db phono stage would be more than enough for most any cartridge I can imagine. I just sold a ph...
Tube Preamp Paired with Tube Phono Stage?
Actusreus, I would think that 60 db of gain from a phono stage would be enough for any cartridge, unless possibly if you are considering running through a passive controller instead of an active preamp. Most will run the Chinook through an active ...
Why is the market for used Levinson amps so slow?
Congrats Irvrobinson. I won't get in the middle of a Krell/Levinson debate, as I'm not a fan of either brand.
Why is the market for used Levinson amps so slow?
Well said Bill. I think the inability to IM one another has done the most damage to that sense of community that we all felt. We used to be able to take these threads off-line for some real interesting discussions and to share our perspectives and...
Why is the market for used Levinson amps so slow?
I agree with the first two posts as well.I don't know that I agree with Trelja that the used market has been brought to a halt. It may have slowed slightly as some have looked for other avenues, but I don't think it has stopped. The CURE for the d...
Analytical or Musical Which way to go?
I pose the question then how can a spekeer that sounds lifeless be acurrate?Gregadd 05-11-12 The recording could sound lifeless, thereby being accurately reproduced by the speaker.
Percentage of cable cost
I've been studying this for over two decades now, and I've found that the sweet spot for percentage cable cost in relation to system cost comes in between 16.7432% and 18.6559%. For the sake of everyone's safety, I implore you, DO NOT stray outsid...
VPI Scout Cartridge
LOL Stanwal!!! That "Time Traveller" thread also belonged to Bithead2010. I guess he wasn't happy with the answers so he decided to ask again. Just buy a cartridge already Bithead2010. Either Soundsmith or Ortofon will work fine.
McIntosh MA2275 int tube Amp...
This Amp is not in production any longer...Why ??Time. Every model from every manufacturer eventually stops being produced. People want something new, that's all. Manufacturers come out with new models to appease the market.
