Replacing My Maggie 3.6R
Those of us addicted to the Maggie sound have found ways to work through their perceived shortcomings.  Two good REL subwoofers (I have 3 running presently) is a good step in the direction of addressing perceived lack of deep bass. I also bought ...
Audio Cables: All the Same?
You have to listen for many, many days/weeks to fully understand any piece of gear.  I agree with this.  I also believe that you have to tackle a single variable at a time, as possible.  In other words, understand how your amp and speakers inte...
It Pegged the Needle on My "BS Meter". Now, I'm A Believer. Ever Happen to You?
I love the comment about this being a cohesive group. Yes it can be a bit of an echo chamber.   I would say that the converse has happened to me more:  that I expected/hoped for a great improvement and instead found the difference to be subtle if...
Audio Cables: All the Same?
The OP lost a lot of credibility with the eggs benedict analogy. Of course science could differentiate between the two plates: this bacon is more carbonized than on the other plate; the water content in this muffin is higher thus making it mushy; ...
Do high dollar mono blocks truly improve the Sound Quality over the mid tier amps
Edibles would be a more direct investment in sound quality.
Modern Covers of Classics
Try Apocalyptica - basically chamber session classical covers of Metallica Then try Rodrigo Y Gabriella - acoustic guitar, somewhat classical guitar style Metallica covers
Why did this just happen ?
My primary guess would be that the newer Mac has a newer OS with improved drivers for the DAC, and that what you were using before was "crippled" relative to the driver.  Either that or you find the effect of using a hub between your Mac and DAC ...
You're not a true audiophile unless...
Unfortunately it is a bit like a black and white cookie. A very two-sided term: it can certainly mean one who loves audio, but it also carries a pejorative connotation of elitism, conspicuous consumption, and in some cases scientific rejection. I...
Upgrading to a stand alone DAC
In terms of your budget, I would second the suggestions for looking at Schiitt DACs.  I have a Gungnir multibit that I like quite a bit. I also have a Mytek Liberty II and I've enjoyed that but the top end has to be tamed a little bit, so depends ...
Has a Power Conditioner Improved Your Sound?
Where is the link to page 38? Click the word "here."   This is likely to start the same old tweaker vs. logic/science debate!
Has a Power Conditioner Improved Your Sound?
If there was noise that a PC could lower, couldn't that be detected just by listening without any source material playing?  Not saying that is the only reason for these various boxes.  The convenience of timed on/off between amp preamp and source...
Can a DAC do triple duty?
What a dac typically won't do is output both rca and xlr simultaneously.   Interesting.  I’ve never seen one that didn’t output simultaneously.
Aftermarket fuse to tame a bright system?
Ahem...changing the toe-in (or lack thereof) of your speakers can greatly impact treble. Give it a try before lightening the wallet with multi-colored unidirectional fuses.
Best speaker brands for transient response
No one mentions acoustic room treatments?  Slushy or boomy bass is often the result of a need for some level of room treatment.  That's also likely a lot cheaper than replacing any high end speaker.   Also, strongly disagree with audiotroy regard...
Looking for a true upgrade in sound quality
Try Roon and see how that sounds.   Agreed.  Roon is very good for tweaking sound because of its DSP capabilities.  However you have to have a fairly powerful server for some of the DSP, depending on what you want to do.  Roon is also great be...
