Why Preamps Thump on Turn on
My Levinson ML-26 preamp has no power button. When it's plugged in or unplugged, it releases horrid noise way worse than a thump.  I was always careful but we had some sort of power glitch and the preamp went off while the power amp still had some...
How cheap can you go and still be happy with the sound?
Let's not be ridiculous. Good sound has a cost and it should. I don't think there is anything under $10k-$15k that would qualify. And we wonder why the word "audiophile" has a pejorative connotation. This is just a tad elitist. One can "love au...
Is the idea of audiophile listening a dying concept as boomers die off?
The difference is that affordable and even non-music-dedicated gear offers much closer to quality audio reproduction than it did in past generations. Phones and bluetooth speakers sound pretty good!  So the younger generation doesn’t have to do ...
Comparison of various subwoofers for 2 channel audio
Another vote for REL and also to swarm subs.  REL subs are truly tuned differently...they seem to add a lot of space and air to the signal and aren't just about thump.  They are also very fast.    Swarming has helped eliminate bass nodes.
Looking for RCA cables from preamp to amp?
Go balanced and then don't worry about it!
Importance of streamer in audio chain
Let's just agree to disagree.
Auditioning Used Equipment - Am I crazy ?
I think it's unreasonable not to demo anything they have in the store, boxed up or not.  Unless it's already sold. If the OP wasn't trying to take it home, that's just not great business. At least the OP didn't actually make the drive!
Does it have to sound good for you to like it?
No.  Lots of punk and metal aren't recorded well, and can be some of the best music of all time.
What was the most expensive record that you ever bought ?
Box set:  Life House box set by the Who.  If you like this album, indulge!  Single title:  I think it was Kruder & Dorfmeister's 4-disc K&D Sessions. Also up there would be Mike Ness's 2 country albums.
Which has a greater influence on sound quality, the amp or the preamp?
Now that I've gotten my morning snark out of the way, my answer is that they are both critical but they perform different functions and thus their relative importance is contextually dependent.
Which has a greater influence on sound quality, the amp or the preamp?
Which is more important to walking? The left or the right leg?
DSD coming to Qobuz streaming?
What am I missing? My perception has been that DSD has a slightly different character from PCM.  Much of this could be expectation bias.  And I don't mean to say it is necessarily better.  It would just be fun to have access to more DSD-origina...
MQA....again.
MQA is fine as a niche thing if people want it. Had it become dominant it could have negatively affected the industry - end to end systems always have issues (HDCP!) - but so what if it exists at the fringes.  I think if there is going to be anot...
Solid State Power Amps
McIntosh is good gear.  IMHO you pay something for the brand.  But one good thing is they maintain value, and occasionally gain in value (probably not from new price), whereas with most other gear you'll take some loss on resale.
Eversolo DMP-A8 vs iPhone plugged directly to integrated amp - why no difference?
Did the OP ever identify the streaming source?  How useful can the discussion be without knowing that?
