Help for girlfriend HT speaker system???
I second the Gallo's, but would seriously consider using B&W LM1's in this set up for front and rear, center and sub are up to you. The LM1's have a more full sound than the Gallo's (I own both BTW). Both speakers have high GAF factors, check'...
Dont Ship UPS, Marantz tuner DOA
I just bought some speakers from a gent, and I insisted they were in their orginal box, then the orginal box bubble wrapped, peanuts, and in another box. I paid the extra $20, it's worth it. Whenever I sell, I strongly suggest the buyer consider t...
Need help - system performance
Steve, you have good gear, but have a few changes to make. Get some Transparent speaker cables (used). Run the amps in monoblock mode, you'll be glad you did. Then allow the amps to break in, 20 hours is not enough time for new amps to settle in a...
Does EVERY component need break-in?
Unplug your gear for a week, then plug it back in. Thin sounding? Absolutely. Give it several hours, and magically your system sounds just like it did a week ago. I've done this when I've travelled for extended periods of time, and also noticed th...
one whiskey,one scotch,one beer
Thorogood still does quite a few live shows, in small to medium sized venues. Keeps your ear to the ground, chances are you can catch him live, quite something to see/hear. Jeff
$6000 Budget Which used Amp ?
My Quest Z's sound great with my BATVK500, much smoother than with my Classe. I'd suggest a tube preamp and transistor amp, BATVK30 and VK500 are great in my setup. I've stayed away from tube amps, mostly due to the cost of changing tubes. I leave...

What amp/preamp for ML Prodigy speakers
I can't say for sure what's best with Prodigy's, but I own ML Quest Z's and they are terrific with Balanced Audio Technology gear. I'm using a BAT VK30 preamp and BAT VK500 amp now and love the sound. Wires are Goertz Micropurl balanced betwen pre...
NAD S200 Amp sounds amazing
I tried it out a while back, nice piece of gear. Unfortunately when I listened to the S200 it was fresh out of the box and needed some breaking in. From the sounds of things you bought yours used or as a demo and it's already achieving it's full p...
Tubes are not so unreliable
If it has a decent phono section, I'll give him $100 *g*
Bi-wire amp connection?
I had the same dilemma a while back. You may want to consider selling your wires, and buying some wires that are meant for this set up. Four wires at the speaker end, two wires on the amp end (per channel), and yes, if at all possible go with spades.
Speaker base - what material is best?
I suggest granite, and it can be found for pretty well nothing. Many folks are having granite installed as kitchen countertops, the cut out section where the sink goes is usually thrown away. Contractors usually convince customers to go with a par...
no body is buying anything on audiogon
I agree that posting an ad these days doesn't generate a lot of interest, I think it's a combination of the season and the economy. Anyone who's working in the technology sector are doing their best to hang on to their job and pay the bills. As qu...
Bookshelf speakers for Linn Classik?
Leafs, the Coincident's look interesting, but the footprint is a little too big for the wall mounted stands I have (the speakers are 12" deep, the stand is only 10" deep). I may go with a pair of Linn speakers, I'm a Linn newbie and never thought ...
Floor Standers Vs. Book Shelf Speakers
Again, what will be the associated equipment (amplifier, CD player, etc..) and what's your budget?
