Wisdom of buying high priced digital gear (given new advancements underway)
One's perspective is very much based on one's budget ... so I don't think there is any one "right" answer.  Given the rapid rate that the technology has advanced, especially with respect to DACs, that I view DAC years very much like dog years.  Th...
Is Roon Nucleus the best choice for Roon Core and as server?
I have been using a Roon Nucleus as a server/streamer since November and am very happy with it. It has a bay where you can install an SSD or HDD.  I'd go with an SSD.  You can also just hook up an external storage device via USB.  Connect it via e...
Bluesound node 2i
The Bluesound Node 2i is a nice piece and good value for the money.Like most of its competitors, more often than not, it will behave and perform better using a wired connection.  There are few streamers that actually are designed to perform better...
Streaming: WiFi or wired??
(1) When possible, do wired.   With few exceptions, in most cases wired will do better than wireless.  (2) You haven't mentioned a budget.  If this is your entry into streaming, then a Bluesound Node 2i (retails for $550) is a good place to start....
Good Entry-Level DAC
With your budget in your shoes I'd be looking to find a used Ayre Codex.  Should be able to pick one up in the $900 to $1000 range.I'd also be much less concerned with the DAC chip in play.Much more concerned about the total implementation of the ...

Roon vs the world (streaming software)
Roon Pluses and Minuses as I see them:+ Great interface+ Integration of local library with Tidal and/or Qobuz+ Common denominator usable with so much hardware+ Music discovery via Roon suggestions and Roon Radio AI+ Potential for future developmen...
Where do you go after a BlueSound Node 2i?
Given that you like the interface, in your shoes my next step would be to pair the Node 2i with your outboard DAC of choice.  Schiit products are all good value for the dollar.  I have paired the Node 2i with a Chord Qutest, and loved the combo.  ...
USB/Toslink Adapter???
Can think of 3 which are no longer in production with USB B input and Digital Coax output.  But none with Toslink input or output. Those being the Stello U2, Bryston Buc-1, and the Schiit EITR.
Qobuz or Tidal?
I have both.   Tidal since 2014 and Qobuz since November. That being said, if I had to choose one over the other, I’d pick Qobuz.  (1) to my ears feel that the SQ is just a smidge better.  (2) Have nothing against MQA, but all things being equal, p...

TonyTake your time and be strategic with each addition you make to your system. Have a road map in mind. You don’t have many SACDs at present, but a whole lot of CDs, and you like handling physical media. You mention the desire to explore streaming...
Help regarding SACD/CD players
TonyHow many SACDs do you own? How many CDs do you own?Oh, and what is your proposed budget? My view/advice/opinion on this matter to a very real extent is based on the answers to these questions.
Can anyone shed some light on the difference between the Oppp BDP-83 and BDP-83SE ?
Both are Blu Ray universal players capable of playing just about anything you could throw at it, including CDs and SACDs.The BDP-83SE was a totally upgraded version, with cutting edge set of  DAC chips (ESS Sabre) for its day (circa 2010), upgrade...
