@scubabird If I was looking for something that provided the essence of what I love about the Thiels, and was looking to get hold of something that was in current production, my starting point would be Maggies and Vandersteens.  I had Magnepan spea...
DAC PREFERENCES TO MATCH WITH NODE2
First, a few questions.(1) What is your budget?(2) Are you open to buying pre-owned kit?(3) How important is it to you that the DAC does MQA?Note that when connected to a non MQA DAC, BluOS will still perform the first MQA unfold getting you all t...
spend on the streamer or on the DAC ?
First, I'd advise laying out something of a roadmap, and budgeting for the potential additional pieces, including cables . Are you currently doing Roon?  Is that something that you wish to consider?  Apart from a DAC, would a Roon Nucleus or some ...
Is the Roon Nuceus device a good streamer?
The short answer is yes.  Have been streaming from a Roon Nucleus to a Chord Qutest for almost a year now.  It replaced a Bluesound Node 2i in my main rig.  From an SQ perspective I'd say that the two pieces were pretty close, but that was before ...
PS Audio Direct Stream DAC w/Roon Nucleus + vs. Auralic Vega G1
I have a Roon Nucleus hooked up to a Chord Qutest via USB and very much like the combination.  I have no personal experience with either the Direct Stream or the Vega G1, but if I had to choose, would go with the Roon Nucleus feeding the Direct St...
Bluesound installed DAC - music killer?
Ever since NAD started offering components featuring both BluOS and Dirac Live, I've been hoping for the Lenbrook folks to offer an upscale BluOS network player (preferably without a DAC) that was both Roon Ready and featured Dirac Live with eithe...
Bluesound installed DAC - music killer?
@asw  NAD, Bluesound, and PSB Speakers are all part of the Lenbrook Group head quartered in Pickering, Ontario, Canada.  The product you are thinking of is the NAD C658, which is a DAC, preamp, and network player, which among other things features...

@nicco Had a pair of CS .5 in my living room rig from 1996 to 2011 before graduating to the CS 2.4. The CS .5 is indeed a remarkable speaker. I’ll never forget when a professional musician friend of mine dropped by, a saxophone player, and Paul De...

Help! Choosing a Roon core/streamer/server! (Roon vs Innuos vs Wyred4Sound)
Hello Patrick!I’ve been using a Roon Nucleus I3 as a Server/Streamer since November. I have it hooked up to a Chord Qutest via Curious USB Cable. In April I replaced the stock Nucleus power supply with an Sbooster 19V Linear Power Supply, and then...

Coax or Toslink, Which is better?
All things being equal, in most cases would vote for coax. However, it very much varies from use case to use case, the vagaries of the particular components together with the quality of the particular cable employed.
Beware of SACD Transports -- they probably will not work with your favorite DAC
GeerFab Audio offers a $1000 solution that allow you to play SACD's with it's D.BOB (Digital breakout Box) sitting between your SACD player and your DSD capable DAC of choice.HDMI out from SACD player to D.BOB and then Coax or Toslink into the DAC...
