Thiel 2.3 / Musical Fidelity A3cr Power Amp ?
I am sure the A3CR can drive the 2.3s. Just not loudly.
Opinions on Dynaudio Confidence C4
The C4's have a very nice midrange, lots of clarity. IMO the top and bottom end are a little rolled off but still able to provide good bass extension that you can feel. It does not have the speed or dynamics of the Watt/Puppy 7's. If I had to char...
Preamp Deal of the Century
I have the Cortese and a Sim Audio W-5. I think the combo works very well. Supratek preamps should mate well with most SS amps. You should email Mick with the input impedence and gain of the X250 and ask him if he has any concerns about component ...
adding DIP to mega changer, any difference?
I have a DIP on my Sony 555ES. I concur with others that the addition of the DIP was as significant as the addition of the DAC. I will add that digital cables play a big role also. Expect to spend $500-1000 for the digital cables connecting CDP -&...
Preamp Deal of the Century
I received my cortese linestage about 10 days ago. My cortese has one pair of RCA inputs and one pair balanced outputs, no source selector. Prior to the cortese I was connecting my DAC directly to my power amp. With the cortese, the noise floor of...
Tubes with Thiel CS-3.6's? has anyone had success?
Tom_munro,Thiel measures driver diameter by the size of the cage, not the cone. I am sure the cone is no larger that 6.5". I wouldn't be concerned, the woofer cones on the 2.3 are less than 6" and it has the best bass I've ever heard from a cone s...
Preamp Deal of the Century
How long does it take to clear customs? Mick shipped my cortese on 2/24 and it has been in Memphis for 2 weeks waiting to clear customs.
Help: Thiel CS6 vs CS 2.3
To be brief. I found the CS6 to be overly warm with emphasis given to the 2nd octave, to the point that the bass can be obnoxious and distracting. IMO the bass detracts from speakers clarity. The midrange still has the same Thiel sound but there i...
Oppinions on the Thiel 2.3's
Currently driving mine with Sim Audio Moon W-5. Previously used Bryston 4B-ST. I would email Thiel. They should tell you at what serial number they changed to the newer drivers.
Thiel 2.3 amplification
I have Thiel CS2.3's and used to drive them with Bryston 4B-ST and recently switched to Sim Audio Moon W-5. They sound fine with Bryston except if you want to listen listen at high spl's. They sound much better with the Moon W-5 with dynamics benf...
Pass X-250 or Sim Audio Moon W-5 to Drive B&W N802
b59burst, that's interesting because in my system the W-5 emphasized the lowest octave a bit more than the second and third. I think you should try a couple other amps in your system just to put this to rest. I've not listened to the Pass X-250, b...
Bryston owners ONLY
So what is the purpose of the upgrade? I can't imagine you needing more power to drive the Sonatina II's, they are fairly sensitive at 93db. Do you prefer the sound of the 7B-ST or 14B-ST? The 7B-ST operates in high-current or high-voltage mode (s...
Virtually lost, a minimalist cries out for "help."
Jayme,My path is a little different from others, but the results may be similar. I go from CDP, to TacT RCS, EVS DAC, into Sim Audio Moon W-5. Results are spectacular, extreme transparency with no loss of dynamics. I think success in this venture ...
Is there a cable that can warm up my sound?
You should try JPS Labs digital IC's. In my system it was very warm with excellent bass.
Speaker recommendation - 3K budget
For the goals you have listed you can't do much better than Thiels CS2.3. Esp. at this price point. I have the speakers in my system and like them very much. Be sure to audition before you buy, some complain that they are bright and/or too revealing.
