B & W N802's Vs Revel Studios Vs. Mezzo Utopias
I've listened to all 3 speakers before but only listened to the Studio's and Mezzo Utopia's extensively. The Studio's have a polite/laid-back midrange. They can play fairly loudly but represent a more difficult load than the Mezzo Utopia's. The st...
Choice of Amps
Abex, Mondial Designs started building Aragon amps in 1986. Klipsch acquired Mondial Designs and the Acurus and Aragon brands in 2001. If there is any Aragon history before 1986 I am not aware of it.
Choice of Amps
Abex, Aragon is owned by Klipsch, not Krell.
Preamp Deal of the Century
How are the Cortese linestage tubes wired. Is is one tube per channel or does Mick use one triode section of each tube for the left and right channel?
OK, best speakers for 2500 USED......
Thiel CS2.3
Best Dark Sounding Amp For Bright Speakers?
You could build a zoebel network to roll off the highs. Costs a lot less than a amp. You can use different combinations of resistors and capacitors to tweak the roll off to your liking.
noice in thiel cs 2.3
If the preamp volume is turned all the way down, you shouldn't be hearing anything at all. I think these will be the most likely causes of the noise. PreampAmpGound loopBad speaker driverIf the noise is only on one channel you could swap speakers ...
Bryston amps VS the rest... too clear and neutral?
Depends alot on the kind of music you enjoy and the venue you are trying to recreate. I think the Bryston is one of the best amps at recreating a live club scene for rock, blues, or jazz. There are much better amps if you want to recreate symphoni...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Decided to throw my hat in the ring. Today I ordered a SupraTek Cortese linestage from Mick. I'm sure it'll be 4-6 months till it is completed. This will be my first piece of tube equipment. Hopefully, I can get off this upgrade merri-go-round soo...
Opinions on why this system is uninvolving
I have always thought the Revel Studio's were clinical but they focus very well. I think the Studio's need high-current solid-state amplification to sound their best. IMO, the image wander you mention could be attributed to your amplification. The...
TACT rcs 2.0 is a better choice as a pre?
Santafefrank, I've noticed the same thing with my TacT RCS. Decreasing the volume control on the TacT sucks the dynamics from the music. However increasing the volume above 93.9 makes the music seem hard and unnatural. I just leave mine at 93.9.
Revel vs. Aerial vs. B&W
I would consider the Revel Salon's before the Studio's. The Studio's are not coherent from about 2khz up. I've not heard that problem with the Salon's. Soundstage depth is excellent with Revel's but the Revel Salon and especially the Studio's soun...
What's wrong with Thiel?
I thought Ronip is interested in the CS2.3's. What does that have to do with the CS6's and whatever midrange problems JA remarked upon? In any event Thiel has excellent customer service and a 10 year warranty.
What's wrong with Thiel?
I have had a pair of Thiel CS2.3's for about 18 months. The Thiel sound is fast, detailed and transparent and the CS2.3's have it in spades. I have auditioned many speakers up to and including JmLab Utopia's and Revel Salons. I prefer the CS2.3's ...
Toslink vs. RCA
I know this is not "audiophile" glass but there are many datacommunications businesses which terminate single-mode and multi-mode fiber with ST connectors.
