Best 3A5 / DCC90 / CV808 tubes? The 3A5 designation means "3 volt heater, 5 element/pentode structure". This is a new one for me! I will have to take a look at my GE tube manual.
Going Tubing A tube amp with an output impedance of 1 ohm and greater will have the most effect as the tube amp will track the speaker impedance and will not have a flat response (Ohm's Law). It will act like a tone control. So "colored" sound is the result.
Tube Depot's "NOS vacuum tube sale" Easy to claim NOS but hard to prove!
Looking for 50-100 watts of Tube Power (give or take) for my JBL 4349s A pair of nicely restored pair of Dynaco MkIII's with 6550's! I have the rare Paoli version!
To upgrade a separate power supply? On the other hand my Brown Electronics Lab BEL 1001 died after a few weeks use! Needs new power supply caps. It too was built in the mid-80's.
To upgrade a separate power supply? My 40 year old Sumo Andromeda amp has been in daily use for six years with no issues! Designed by the great James Bongiorno of GAS Ampzilla/Dynaco 400/SST fame.
Turntable prices. Is my mind going? On a '"cost-per-gram" comparison nothing beats the $16K Grado Epoch cartridge!
$100-200 linear power supply @akg_ca +1 A voice of sanity!
Nottingham Mentor Rebuild Yes, sand it and take it for an automotive paint job!
Compatibility question You can look up Baerwald, Lofgren and Stephenson alignments. These are all based upon sound mathematical engineering studies.
Compatibility question Not a complete disaster. Since it is a pivoted arm the areas of maximum distortion are at the start and end of an LP. With proper alignment there will be a broader area at the center where distortion is lowest. The farther off the alignment the sm...
Weirdest record defect? If possible you could try returning it to Merge Records.
Weirdest record defect? That is likely a pressing problem inherent to the stampers used. Earlier or later pressings using different stampers may be free of this defect. Otherwise the problem is in the master lacquer from which the mother and stampers were made.
Compatibility question I don't think such a headshell exists. It would be a major improvement. The rest of the arm mechanism is good. Replacing that is a major operation.
Compatibility question If you will be using a replica headshell then you will not be able to properly align any cartridge. That's a problem with the AR headshell. It only as a fixed position for the two mounting screws. No adjustment for tracking angle and overhang is p... |
