My last audio purchase?
Hello Jafant, I loved the Arcam player, it really had great sound quality. Unfortunately, it finally bit the dust, which is why I bought the Oppo 203. Universal players are a bit hard to come by anymore, so that's why I bought the Oppo. With the n...
My last audio purchase?
Enjoy, sounds like a good idea!
My last audio purchase?
This old blue-collared music lover was second bass in high school and the little college I had. My college music professor told me I could be dangerous if my musicianship ever caught up with my voice.  Crazy me, I wound up getting into drag racing...
Luxman 595ASE
Enjoy!
Upgrade path direction
I recently purchased  a Herron Line Stage, and the sound quality of my system took an enormous upswing. I found my phonostage was a lot better than I knew it was. Digital front end, too! Regards, Dan
My last audio purchase?
Several recent purchases have made things much better for me, Townshend Iso Pods, Herron Preamp, and now the new Benchmark DAC 3 DX. After nearly fifty years in this hobby, a lot of equipment has had to be replaced, so I'm hoping to just enjoy...
Thoughts on the Linn LP12 turntable
After having been influenced by Art Dudley, I bought a Garrard 401, and did a DIY overhaul. I built a plinth that I love, put a Dynavector 501 arm on it, and have been enjoying it for years. The 401's are not fussy, built very robustly, and sound...
Looking for advice re: amps for Dynaudio Contour 20i
Years ago, I owned a pair of beautiful Contour 5.4 Dynaudio's in Gorgeous Rosewood and loved them. They seemed to work better with high-powered solid State driving them (I used an Aragon 3002 amp (300 Wpc), and they sounded great with that much po...
Use or sell/replace Oppo UDP-203?
I had to replace an ailing Arcam DVD, and wound up buying an Oppo 203. I ordered a new non-switching power supply for it from Korea, and put it in. It's now the best sounding player I've had, and glad to have it. Regards, Dan
An older audiophiles new equipment
I'm with you on this. In spite of my tinnitus and hearing loss, I'm enjoying my system and music more than ever these days, so it makes getting old not so hard to take. Stay well, enjoy, Dan
Best Home HIFi you’ve listened to
At this time, I'd have to say my own system is the best I've ever heard. Only due to some recent upgrades in amplifier, preamp, and Townshend Isolation Pods under my speakers. I've never enjoyed music listening more at any time than I am right now...
Why Does My Current Music Sound So Much Better than It Did in the 80’s?
I've had a very "good" sounding system for over twenty years. In the recent few months, it has become to my ears, a "great" sounding system merely by replacing one component-my preamp. It cost more than I usually allow myself to spend on any part...
Do you build anything for your high fidelity system? If so, what do you make?
Finished the build on my 12" Tannoy speakers (enclosures are 150 liters nearly 2" thick MDF, @ 192 lbs. each, built custom crossovers using Mundorf capacitors, Alpha Core inductors and Dueland resistors, rebuilt my Garrard 401 turntable, built my ...
Question about amplifiers
I bought a Class D Audio GaN amplifier to use for multi-channel listening, so I won't put so many hours on my 3C24 tube amp, which is outstanding. The Class D sounds almost as good, and was not very expensive. Maybe have a  look at them. Regards...
Can a great system make a mediocre recording sound good?
I've owned a CD for years that I could never find listenable on any of the systems I've owned in the nearly twenty years  I've owned the disc,  a Vanguard Classic  recording of J.S. Bach's Brandenberg Concertos,  by the English Chamber Orchestra, ...
