Placing your record on a spinning turntable.
I've been changing spinning records for over fifty years with no issues whatsoever. Motors don't like being shut off and on again over and over. So what' the harm?   Dan
Your last concert was to see who and when?
Buddy Guy with a very young Joe Bonamassa opening for him. Buddy guy was great, I had to get earplugs for my wife and I, Joe was way too loud, and not so enjoyable as a result.
Miracle by Joseph long on Dynavector XX2MKII cartridge
Joseph, I was going to email you and let you know I posted your explanation, but I see that isn't necessary, you didn't say anything, so I guess it's all right. I appreciate your explanation, but I found out what I needed to know as soon as I pl...
Miracle by Joseph long on Dynavector XX2MKII cartridge
Hello Lewm, I heard from Joseph twice, first was: Nude 3/80 micron Orbray microridge. Second was a long missive: If I may interject some information: Your cartridge had a broken suspension wire which necessitated a full rebuild. If all it neede...
Miracle by Joseph long on Dynavector XX2MKII cartridge
Lewm, I'm glad I gave you something humorous to give you a chuckle. I have to stop and laugh at myself now and again these days being this age, and having had a stroke, I'm glad I can still remember my own name. Most of my life, I was very good at...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound?
I consider myself extremely fortunate that, in my listening room, I don't need any room treatments, nor do I think I need any. My living/listening room is connected to my dining room, which is connected to my kitchen. It measures 16.6" W X 34.6 D,...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound?
Yep, dial it in so you have everything in balance. If you listen so bass/mids/and highs are out of balance, you're throwing away much of what you paid so much for to have in the first place. Just my 2cents worth. Enjoy, Dan
upgrade path from my current speakers? (Dynaudio Special Forty)
I lived with a beautiful pair of Dynaudio Contour 5.4's for several years, but my first love was of Tannoy Dual Concentrics. I bought a pair of 12" HPD's, and had them sent from England. I sold my Dynaudio's, and built a pair of 150 liter bass-re...
Sugden Amps
I mentioned this in another thread earlier this evening, that along with my beautiful-sounding Paul Birkeland (of Bottlehead) designed and built 812 tube amp, I really enjoy listening to my kit-built Hypex Class D amp. Kit was only around $600, e...
Better hearing
Get your earwax removed?
Glad you're back!
Happy Audiophile Day!
Will do!
One key to building great systems over time.
After 50+ years at this hobby (and it's actually much more to me than that, as I've put as much energy into building my system as I have my home, and yes, I built my own home at one time), I like having substantially-built equipment to listen with...
New Pass Labs Go To
I did some business with him a couple times, good for him to be able to retire. He treated me the best I've ever been treated by any HiFi establishment I've ever done business with. I wish there were more guys we could say that about, but good on...
Mental and auditory acuity, and aging
Last night, after what's been a rather emotional week, I sat down and listened to Jennifer Warne's SACD of "The Well", and had tears in my eyes for nearly the whole disc. Not tears from sadness, but from joy from what a wonderful and well done, bu...
