Garrard 401 record clamp or weight?
On my 401, I use my old clamp from my VPI Scout, and a copper plate on the platter. It handles the weight very well, and sounds good with a few different carts on my Dynavector 501 arm. Regards, Dan
Where do you want your system to go when you go?
My oldest son (52 now) will no doubt want my Tannoys, but he's more into HT than music listening. His brother, a part time musician, may want some pieces of it. I hope someone will be able to enjoy it on some level.
The Audible Illusions M3B preamp sounds amazing!
I recently had much the same experience after purchasing a Herron VTSP 3A 360 line stage, and was completly amzed at the improvent in my system' sound. I'm glad for you you were able to have the  same type of experience. Regards, Dan
Dynavector DV501 with a Grado?
Bill, I've been using my 501 on my Garrard 401 for around fifteen years now, and I've used quite a few different cartridges on it, without problems. I don't claim to be knowledgeable about analog details, but I do know the 501 arm will acomodate m...
What Is Most Important?
Carpathian, even though I took a bit of abuse from one member for having mentioned my preamp more than once, since you asked, it is the Herron VTSP-3A  tube preamplifier, it is one of the early ones that were first developed by Keith Herron, it us...
What Is Most Important?
As Syntax posted, the preamp has had the most profound positive effect on my system's overall performance. I don't have to listen as loud anymore to hear what the music really has to say, especially in softer  moments. Just a complete transformat...
Has this happened to you? How can it be stopped?
I had the exact same problem last niight! But my wife is 76 years old, and has Dementia, so I just turned it off and went to sleep.
Speaker polyamory -- or, stories about getting a second set to alternate with your primary
It took me eleven or twelve years to find out just how good my speakers really are. Now that I know, they're not going anywhere. Regards, Dan

The new dynamic in speaker pricing
I get tremendous enjoyment from my custom designed and built Tannoy HPD 315's that were about $5000 back in 2008 when I first decided to build them.  You don't have to spend much to get a LOT of enjoyment, but for folks who enjoy spending vast sum...
Your experience in "in their day" brands/components that you remember foundly?
Oh, I forgot my Garrard 401!
Your experience in "in their day" brands/components that you remember foundly?
I'm still gladly using Tannoy Dual-Concentric loudspeakers,  since the rest of the system is at its best, the speakers are, too. Regards, Dan
Dynavector DV-507 Mk II ?
I went from a 9" VPI on a Scout, to the Dynavector on a Garrard 401 on a heavy wooden plinth, many years ago now. I still love the performance of my  Dynavector 501, even after all these years. Regards, Dan
New equipment
Generally speaking, the better the system/room sounds, the more I enjoy the music. I believe that's what I spent all that money on.  And I do really enjoy it. My new Benchmark DAC 3 DX is sounding nice, and I don't really know how to use it yet, ...
My last audio purchase?
My new DAC was supposed to be here yesterday. Now, the next day, still not here. Tomorrow, Holiday. Maybe Tuesday?
