RCA to RCA versus RCA to XLR
I don't think their would be any benefit to doing this. This would be a good question for Ralph to answer.
Fear of volume control
invalid what preamp do you have?I have a space tech labs tube preamp.
Fear of volume control
find with very quiet preamps the sound is good at low levels too. That is you can hear everythingI agree with you on this, I used to have to listen loud until I got a really good preamp.
Spring-Loaded Screw Turns Drywall Into Sound-Absorbing Panels
What is holding the drywall in place? Do you tighten it until the head is below the the surface, like a normal DW screw? It looks like the big threads near the head of the screw bite into the drywall and that is supposed to support the drywall, see...
What do we hear when we change the direction of a wire?
There will be ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE in the sound you are hearing if you reverse the direction of ANY wire. This also includes fuses too.Have you tried reversing the direction of a cable, if not how do you know there is no difference? It doesn'...
Recommendations for speakers that sound great at lower volume levels.
As mentioned before, high efficiency speakers tend to keep a better tonal balance at lower volume levels (around 45~50  dBA  SPL). Must be different for planar speakers, my apogee duetta 2's sound great at low SPL's.
Peeking inside a Carver Crimson 275 Tube Amplifier
Carver was a transformer genius.Bob carver learned how to wind output transformers from David Hafler.
Dedicated lines — how many? Other advice?
A 15 amp circuit= 1800 wattsA 20 amp circuit= 2400 watts Your gear would never use anything more than that. You can do the math!It might not trip the breaker, but when I had one 20 amp dedicated circuit it definitely made the lights blink with the...
Dedicated lines — how many? Other advice?
When I had one dedicated circuit I didn't have enough power. I have a big krell amp and a pair of apogee duetta 2 speakers that are only 80 db sensitivity, but they sound great. It also helps if you run your dedicated circuits at the top of the se...
Dedicated lines — how many? Other advice?
I have tried one dedicated circuit for all my audio gear, but I've found that multiple dedicated circuits works better. You might get away with one dedicated circuit if your amp doesn't have much power.
Class D amps seem poised to take over. Then what?
Man alive...The more time i spend here the more it feels like a bunch of geezers trying to hang onto the old tech and talk about how $5k cables augment sound. What do you think satellite TV comes from vacuum tubes. Satellites use vacuum tubes.
Dedicated lines — how many? Other advice?
Run at least two dedicated 20 amp lines, you can always Revert back to one line if you think it sounds better. I have 6 in my dedicated audio room, and I don't have any ground loops.
Class D amps seem poised to take over. Then what?
I don't think there is an amp made that can direct drive the apogee full range, the midrange when direct driven is .14 ohms
Class D amps seem poised to take over. Then what?
Even the big high bias amps built with BJT's can't do it. When stereophile measures them their 8ohm full power measurements are a lot higher than the spec.
Class D amps seem poised to take over. Then what?
These companies that claim double wattage when impedence is halved don't give the actual 8ohm measurement, which is usually a lot higher wattage than their spec sheet has listed.
