Using solid state rectifiers on Cary SLI80 Amplifier
I'm running a super rectifier with Taylor 866a tubes to power my preamp, I know a preamp doesn't need this much juice, but it really made a big difference in the sound. My preamp sounded really good before the super rectifier, but now it's so much...
Using solid state rectifiers on Cary SLI80 Amplifier
oldhvymec: the 866 is a mercury half-wave rectifier tube. It must be warmed up first before any B+ voltage is applied! Otherwise it can explode! Anyway two are needed for full-wsve rectification.I run two 866a's in my super rectifier, it has a sta...

Threshold T-200. Help me choose a preamplifier
If the input impedance of the T-200 only 926 ohms, the required output impedance of the preamp should be much lower!I would think that about 50 ohms would be safe or the op could just use go unbalanced.
Threshold T-200. Help me choose a preamplifier
Stereophile measured the input impedance of the T-200 at only 926 ohms.
How to get into high end digital? (Feeding a DAC)
Pure digital is totally accurate but not everyone's cup of tea. We are influenced by our pastNot true nothing in audio is totally accurate. Solid state has distortion also, it's just not very pleasant to the ears.
Which component to upgrade to improve bass control?
That looks interesting. I'd prefer to avoid tubes, thoughI believe that model is solid state.
