Can you do anything to make power tubes last longer ?
And fewer on/off cycles, I suppose ?
Installed new tubes. Now a loud pop!
Both channels ?
Mullard EL34 that sounds best
Ralph, right, I will have my SEDs as a back up to use when not doing critical listening. My amp is usually on for about three hours a day on average. I haven't heard about 10000 hours Mullard EL34, but I have heard about 5000 hours Mullard EL34.

After all, I decided that I couldn't indeed live without Mullards, so I will find them for a reasonable price, probably not exactly new but that test NOS.
Do you listen to your music with your eyes open or closed or a combination of both?
Well, both, but if I keep my eyes closed for too long I fall asleep !
Any piece of equipment you currently dream of ?
Yes, they are beasts. Perhaps Diablo 120 then ?

Dream bigger - Gryphon Essence separates.

So.... The short answer to the question - it depends but often yes. Interesting discussion.
I often notice that people who have open reel decks and/or tube equipment are nicest
johd, I think I understand you.

rossb, what table/arm/phono stage do you have ? House sound is more important. This sounds right to me.
Is there usually a dramatic difference between $5k and $10k cartridges ?
Exactly. And phono stage should be two/three times more expensive than the cartridge, assuming the prices reflect the quality relatively accurately. In other words, $10k cartridge is for a very high end front end and the entire system. It is jus...

That's a good approach, I think, because any other one will drive you crazy.

mulveling, this sounds almost like rocket science to me. If they sound "worlds apart" then is it possible that none of them sounds right ? Or it is more like fine musical instruments that are different but both sound right ?
