Should I upgrade my system while losing my hearing?
Leave your hearing alone, it appears to be good enough, you don't need any aid. Upgrade your system, whatever you feel necessary.
CD Got Absolutely Crushed By Vinyl
If we could have master tape dubs we wouldn't bother with either.Given good recordings, in terms of sound naturalness even $500 turntable set-up will sound better than any digital, though. This subject keeps coming as if there was anything unclear....
Bryston 4B3 vs Mac MC462 vs Pass Labs X250.8, OR... GRYPHON Diablo 300?
Diablo's phono and dac are excellent, I just prefer tube phono stage, generally speaking. I also make recordings to tape from vinyl and like to go directly from phono to tape deck and not having to use tape outs, even Gryphon's, if I can help it.F...
Bryston 4B3 vs Mac MC462 vs Pass Labs X250.8, OR... GRYPHON Diablo 300?
If it were my call I would get brand new Diablo 300. However, I would probably choose to have separate tube phono stage and I would have no need for dac. But even if I needed both Gryphon phono and dac I would pay more and get new piece. At this p...
Bryston 4B3 vs Mac MC462 vs Pass Labs X250.8, OR... GRYPHON Diablo 300?
Gryphon is not dark sounding. It is deep dense articulate and powerful. No brightness and low distortion. This is top solid state level, and it should last for decades. I don't even consider any other transistor amps, makes little sense to me. I w...
Threat of fire from audio equipment
Now that I will call a reliable piece - Levinson preamp.I have transistor equipment and cannot hear any difference after two hours of warm up, and the difference between one hour and two hours is small. This doesn't mean that others wouldn't hear ...
Kuzma/Koetsu feedbak??
Never heard of particularly fragile Koetsu, heard something but don't remember exactly what of fragile Dynavector. Read about Clearaudio what lewm said.

People understand. Record mat is also a tuning mat, which means that there is no one universal solution for any set-up and preference. As for the physics of platter/mat/record/cartridge interaction, it is so complex that even highly qualified mech...
I’m pretty sure I’ve lost my mind...
Interaction is important but great cables will sound at least very good with everything unless perhaps custom made for particular speakers.

Yeah, Larry only likes low output MCs, at least he says so. In any case, if you put $3000 cartridge you better have $5000 -$6000 phono stage. He is nice to talk to otherwise.

I didn't tape it, it just sits there without the hole touching the spindle.
I’m pretty sure I’ve lost my mind...
Just keep them, I use speaker cables that used to cost new as much as my speakers new. In the long run this will not feel too expensive.
Nottingham Spacedeck vs Rega Planar 8 vs Technics SL1200G
Jeff, the amount of static I get varies, mostly with weather - more in winter when the air is dry, but it is never much. I am not sure whether it is mat or inner record sleeve or me handling records that contributes most. But one thing is certain ...
Nottingham Spacedeck vs Rega Planar 8 vs Technics SL1200G
Many Nottingham Spacedeck owners use Boston Audio Mat -1 graphite record mat. Including me. The company is out of business, I think, but you might be able to find it here or on usaudiomart or ebay, I saw it once.

That’s right, those I mentioned used copper mat with top level Technics MK III in systems that exceed just about anything.Mat doesn’t have to be the same hardness as vinyl.
