Hafler DH 500 update?
Oops, page 4 "loudspeaker fuse selection"
Hafler DH 500 update?
Larryrx, the amp manual states it comes supplied with 2 amp fuse for speakers. I don't know if those are the correct covers, or fuses for something else. They like the 2 amp apparently also. Read last paragraph, page 4 in link. That way you could ...
Using speaker cable as jumpers
The most important thing is a good clean tight connection. Check to post for corrosion too. You could use the same, or some wire, just as long as they can't short between plus and minus.
Hafler DH 500 update?
If your speakers are fused, that may help protect them. Also, you could add your own inline fuse. Possibly a 1 and a half amp, to two amp in series with the plus terminal of your speakers. A low powered new amp could clip out and fry your speakers...
Another biamp thread.
Crossovers are indeed complicated. It's hard to out do an Engineer/Designer as an experimenter. It's hit or miss. If you miss, you could end up with blown drivers fairly easy. A lot are hard to get. Especially tweeters that blow easily. If there i...
Biasing your Tubes to your Room
Let me add, there's also a possibility something else is causing it, I'm just going with the most likely causes I can think of now.
Static when swapping power amplfiers
Always make any connection changes with everything unplugged.Try shutting your power amp itself off first, using its own power switch, while music is playing. This will help discharge the capacitors in your amp, that stores power like a battery. T...
Biasing your Tubes to your Room
First off, are they all the same type/brand of tubes? If different brands mixed, or a tube/tubes getting tired can do something like this.Next, if they are all the same and good (tubes) , try switching the left and right source inputs and let and ...
what speakers to buy??
Yes, you definitely need to say what you are looking for sound wise, size of speaker, room size, and there's probably more. Here is the specs in this link for the Op's 250 watt per channel amp.[http://www.mcintoshlabs.com/us/Products/pages/Product...
Thoughts on current EL-34 tubes
The Winged "C" is musical and lush, with plenty of liquid. So far all of the offerings I tried from New Sensor seem to lean toward a dry, and almost sterile sound. The last new stock Tungsol still seams to have their (New Sensor) house sound, mayb...
Can all headphones handle HIGH Volume levels?
There seems to be a ton of those newer Monster Beats headphones on sale(used maybe)at a fraction of the price. They're supposed to be good at pounding bass.I haven't heard them, and don't plan to. I'm in the save your ears group! I use Sennheiser ...
What is Warmth?
As far as musical instruments go, here's a good example of them using warm to describe this piano. It has well accepted by musicians and then audio, around the world. Mr. Holt may have gotten the idea from musicians.[http://steinwaychicago.com/ins...
What is Warmth?
Musical instruments themselves can have a have warmth characteristic also. Different woods used in a violin for example. It's not only tied to sound of an audio system.
Great films where music is a central theme.
