Best Speaker for a reflective room ?
Despite years of really trying anything by Klipsch make my ears bleed, never, ever, put them in a 'bright' room unless you are already deaf above 12 Khz. Interestingly in one of my "bright rooms" omni directional speakers sounded the best, Ohm Wal...
What I wish I knew before starting my audiophile journey
It's an awful hobby, it's costly, lonely and addictive. Number one rule, listen to as much equipment as you can and never commit to anything until you have heard it, preferably at home. Never buy anything at RRP, it's all overpriced. The only thin...
Warm and accurate bookshelves that can handle volume
Can you really get warm and accurate? Accurate surely implies neutral, warm is not neutral. Do you mean you want speakers you like the sound of? I have 2 pairs of Audio Physic speakers, they are very detailed but certainly not cold. To me they sou...
The problem with absorption panels- it kills the fine details
Any room treatment first requires identifying the problem.  If absorption panels remove detail then you have applied the wrong solution, probably in the wrong places. Rooms can be over damped or over diffused, actually sometimes they can be both. ...
Is there anything better than live recordings?
Two completely different experiences, no live album has anywhere near the sound quality of a properly recorded album. No album is anything like a live performance. Go to a movie and then go to the same performance as a play, chalk and cheese.
Subwoofer boom is too much for me...
The best solution is probably, use 2 subs not one.
Why does pulling out main speakers from wall improve sound?
The brain can judge distance from sound specifically its reflections, speakers close to a wall create reflections very close in the time domain to the original sound this means your brain 'knows' this is a small space. Speakers further in the room...
Speakers that are good with tubes
Electrostatic speakers are wonderful if you like them, I have heard dozens driven with every type of amplification.  Sorry I've not heard one I liked. It's purely personal I know however, as more than one HI fi expert and reviewer has observed, "c...
How long does it take a decent quality speaker to "wear out"?
Had Royd Doublets for over 20 years, a friend has had them for 10, I would still love to get them back.
Are There Improvements that Can Be Easily and Quickly Made Without Buying More Stuff?
Great advice from Chayro, I love Graceland by Paul Simon and So by Peter Gabriel, , unfortunately they both sound terrible on any decent stereo I have tried, much, much too bright.  Sorry, goodbye Peter, goodbye Paul.
Starting Point for Room Treatments?
A number of issues arise 1.  Do you have a problem? Mine was booming bass in a very small room, bass traps helped but two subwoofers solved it, the solution may be counter intuitive. 2. Measure the room response before and after, adding 'treatment...
Compact ~20WPC Tube Amp
Regarding 'compact', the Cayin CS 55A has inbuilt phono and USB inputs, half size width and puts out 22 Watts in Triode (40 Watts in ultra linear). So lower your box count and get great amp for less than $3000.
What are your top 3 favorite female singers?
Dusty, Sade, Stevie Nicks.
Speakers that are good with tubes
Find speakers you like , then the tube amplifier! If you buy a 10 watt amp you are restricting your choice of speaker, massively. I tried for years finding high sensitivity speaker I liked, never found one. I use Audio Physic 89dB 4 ohms, with 40 ...
That sound is right for me.
My Christmas present this year is a Cayin Cs55a. It sounds super through headphones. I purchased new at 40+% off so even happier. If headphones alone are your thing your could try a headphone amp / dac . I have an iFi iDSD micro  BL and it is grea...
