How many use Vintage Hi-Fi systems?
I use old gear for vinyl. I mean, have we literally reinvented the wheel over the past couple of years? I hear someone is going to start advertising a turntable as "Now! More round!"
Linn Basik LV-X vs. Grace 707
I had a 707 on a Thorens TD-160 Super. Nice arm, very easy to use, but very light-weight. You have to use a very light catridge - 6g or so. The counterweight didn't go far enough back to take anything heavier, at least not if I wanted to be able t...
Help choosing a new cartridge
Audio Technica indeed might be a good choice. I'm listening to my OC-9 right now and for the money - well within your price range - it sounds pretty darned good.
finally got my system up and running
Try a Pro-ject Tube Box. The're very reasonable. I'm very happy with the sound I'm getting. It'll be a big improvement over your built in p-stage.
Flattening a warped LP
I put the sandwich in cold, but left the heat on for 30-seconds or a minute or so, then turned it off. Those stones take a really long time to truly cool down. About three hours to room temp. Not hot, just warmer than ambient temp.just be careful ...
Flattening a warped LP
I tried two polished 12-inch marble tiles in the 200 degree oven and that worked great! Stick the sandwich in the oven, turn it off and come back when its cool. You're good to go.
Vinyl is back Sony at Sears
I was in Chicago where I saw a large add for shoes that also featured some hi-fi equipment. One of those cheap Ion tables stacked on a brand new McIntosh pre-amp. That would be like pumping crude oil directly into your Porshe. Obviously not an ad ...
table turning backwards
Does it only happen with Ozzy Osbourne records?
Looking for a entry level audiophile turntable
If you'd consider going used, I got a Sota Star with the vacuum platter with an AQ6 arm well in your price range. Even twenty years old its a rock solid table. They're built like tanks.
Sota Millennia Vacuum?
I don't know about the Millenia vacuum, but I've got a Star Saphire that I'm really fond of. The vacuum is great, reliable and very easy to use. A terrific system.
Pittsburgh / Western PA / Eastern OH
I'm in Canonsburg, just down 79 from you mofi.
Intriguing world of Analog
I would sugest starting with used equipment. Your price range is about what I spent when I upgraded earlier this year and for my $$ I got a Series III Sota Star Saphire(upgraded platter) with an Audioquest PT-6, a new Pro-ject tube box and a new A...
Cartridge for Thorens TD-160 also Phonoamp
A lot of folks don't think its very "audiophile", but try to the Shure M97xe. They can be had for less than $100 and they're a great value. I had this cart on a TD-160 super and was really impressed with it for the $$. Even more so when I ran it t...
Those simpler times.....
In high school we listed to music on casettes on a boom box and it was great. Now I get cross everytime a piece of lint stuck on my stylus. Still, when its working right it really sounds sweet.
50's Jazz Club Sounding Songs?
Red Hot & Cool - Dave Brubeck. Great cover too.
