What's a good beginner turntable at $2500+- range? I'd second the Sota recomendation. Used ones are very reasonable, they're built like tanks and you can call the factory and speak with the owner. I've found the vacuum system to be really easy to live with - essentially no problems with it at all....
Exotic Reissue Lps VS. Rare orig Which one? $$=$$ I use the following rule of thumb:If the record is available as a high-quality reissue - say 180 - 200g 33RPM - I won't pay more than than the reissue price for the original. If it is not available as a reissue then I'll consider spending more dep...
How long to wear a record out? How does your 200X played record sound? That would be your best indicator.
John Coltrane Ballads The 200g vinyl reissue is worth hearing too.
Reducing scratch impact with VTA??? I had it about parallel (and perhaps a little lower on 200g)and that was too low. Cymbals and strings were badly rolled off. I raised it a very little bit using 180g record for the height and that seemed to do the trick, even for 200g vinyl. I'm v...
Reducing scratch impact with VTA??? well, its not really feasible to adjust VTA for indivudual records. There is no manual fine-tune for it. You have to open the allen screw and manually raise and lower the arm. I think its going to be one of those things thats just set up close eno...
Reducing scratch impact with VTA??? So, I got a couple of new 180 & 200g vinyl records the other day and they just weren't sounding as good as I expected them too. To thin in the highs, 'rolled-off' I guess is the common term. Although I didn't feel there was any muddying of the...
Reducing scratch impact with VTA??? Interesting. No, I don't think I'm losing anything - at least not that I've noticed. When I initially set this cartridge up the top sounded very bright and even a little harsh or distorted on loud passages. That went away with adjusting the VTA do...
Reducing scratch impact with VTA??? Seriously, I just put on another record that had a lot of ticks and it is definately playing MUCH quieter. Any other explanations other than the VTA?
Need p-stage for Sota/Audioquest/audiotechnica My cartridge and p-stage arrived yesterday and I was able to set them up last night. Both items seem to mate well with each other. In general, using a p-stage is a much better match with the Rotel pre-amp. The built-in stage didn't have enough gai...
Need p-stage for Sota/Audioquest/audiotechnica As it turns out, when I took the Shure off my Thorens the stylus was bent and a new one cost more than I paid for the whole cartridge so I decided to take the plunge. I wound up ordering the Audio-technica OC9 and the Project Tube Box. They should...
Star Saphire Motor Spindle And the answer is: According to Sota this is a common problem with Series III Sapphire motors if they get jostled in transit. There is a very small hole in the bottom of the TT directly beneath the motor axl. Quarter turn to the right and voila, n...
Who LOVES their under $ 1000 table combination ? Somone has a Sota Star Saphire in the listings for about $800. Stick a Jelco arm on that for under $300 and you'd have a decent combo for bit over a grand.
Anyone have the setup book for Grace Tonearms? I have the whole original scematic courtesy of Vinyl Engine. I'll e-mail it to you.
