Power: Good or Bad
Rlawry: The SET amp threw a bigger soundstage, was more warm and full, and had a more ripe bass. The big SS amp had far more bass impact, was more transparent and detailed, and had better dynamics. Which was better?Actually, you answered the quest...
FM Acoustics Amplifiers
What is the secret of their good sound?I don't know any secret. They match all components in pairs, used per each channel (i.e. manually, post materials purchasing phase) -- but that's not a secret. That may be a contributing factor. Are the techni...
FM Acoustics Amplifiers
Phono - 122, line- 155/245; power - 411. Don't know about the MBL as I heard this at a different occasion. It was a nice component as well./What other SS amps are competitive in performance?Quite a few, I would imagine. However none that I know of...
Tube amps and speaker ohms
Thank you, Atma -- good point about Mr Pass or Mr Hanson.I should have worded my question better, anyway!
Tube amps and speaker ohms
The zero feedback transistor amps are *sorely* outnumbered! How do you stabilise a transistor amp circuit without any feedback at all, anywhere?
FM Acoustics Amplifiers
Extremely well stabilised sound, particularly in the hi register (amps are wide-bandwidth). I've used some products (pre & phono) and listened to a full FM set-up (ie. bring yr own source, plug & play) which offered excellent sound: by thi...
Can tube amps give true high end bass?
AtmaMost speakers if heavily damped will in fact not be able to reproduce the bass waveform.A tiny clarification: "overdamped" could be the result of a combined effect of driver & amp. I.e., if one uses a highly damped Lowther PM4 (x-max 1mm, ...
DIY Interconnects review
ALWAYS ground the copper shield (or it will crush your high frequencies and close down the sound!) but make sure you don't ground out the cable's wires. What's your suggestion here? Load side, connected to return wire, or...?Cheers
Can tube amps give true high end bass?
Can tube amps give true high end bass?Let's assume the speakers are optimally set up in the room (bery few are). Also, that "hi end" bass means as close to the original as possible.Given these premises, of course a tube CAN produce bass... It's no...
Does a good sounding surge protector exist?
Cytocycle -- what does a dedicated line/ amplification/ isolation, etc, have to do with surge protection?
Has anybody had experience with the Orions?
according to Mr. Linkwitz they are capable of conveying the full range of acoustical spaces, from dry to wet. Can anyone confirm this?Yes, the restitution is palpably correct.
Important Interconnect Question
it's extremely difficult to construct a digital link terminated in an RCA plug (the standard "digital" out) that is actually a 75 ohm cableIt's actually easy to do -- with the right equipment. The equipment is very expensive. The idea being, as yo...
Reference level playback
OK, I'm not sure I understood what you're saying -- no reflection on you / I'm challenged. Is it the following:"set yr system gain to 83 dB spl (at listening position?) using a 1kHz reference tone -- and leave volume control at that. Play music."Is...
Has anybody had experience with the Orions?
Gradients are dipole only below 200 hz and i assume Orions are some where around thatNo. The Orions are open baffle from ~2,4kHz to ~40Hz. Now they have a back firing tweet too (the tweet used has its own back chamber).
is it worth it?
The oppo is fine. The TV screen should be as large as necessary to get a feel of the visual "effect". 32 may be a tad small -- but no sweat. Think of a concert and what size screen can transpose you (or trick you into focusing yr attention).IMO, e...
