Avantgarde horn help
R U painting the INSIDE or the outside (or both)? Which horn -- all? Which A's are these -- the 3?Paint will change the inside wall surface of the horn and, consequently, its sound. It can make a positive difference on one horn (mid hi) and negati...

Thank you, Swamp -- and sorry Oz
Vandersteen Quatro v Magnepan 3.6
FWIW, I had 3.6s. I have listened to V-4s but never had them at home. For yr stated music prefs, probably V-4s. For HT, most probably V-4s.Will I need subwoofers for music with MaggiesI assume so. I did.
Break in period
Rather than give a total number of hours, I recommend you play spkrs low volume in the beginning perhaps even using compressed music or music without aggressive transients & dynamics. Increase volume gradually. Also, give yr new spkrs a little...
What sounds best integrated or separates?
On a theoretical level -- neither need to sound better "in regards to musical involvement musicality tonal balance etc" as you note.But... we are speaking about commercial products. So: it's easier to compromise in an integrated -- common PS, one ...
Jadis JF-1 Crossover? Any experience?
3) Penalise? Not really. Plus it's a grand pain to avoid gross energy losses and impedance disasters when using many attenuators. You have attenuation already designed into the circuits -- use those.2 These xover pots are useful to "equalise" the ...
Jadis JF-1 Crossover? Any experience?
T-bone -- if I understand correctly: you have a pre, you have an active xover for yr particular speakers, and there is no passive xover doubling up in the system. You also have one integrated amp + 1 power amp. Correct?1) You set the two amps to ~...
Sonus Faber Amati Homage vs Thiel 7.2
At the moment I'm finding the midrange in the Amatis very thin and light. I'm not sure if they are meant to sound like that or not. Especailly at higher volumesThey are not meant to sound like that. If anything, you should be getting a slight prom...
more reliable amp: tube or solid state class A
A fifth support for SS. Maybe the right word is "maintenance" rather than "reliable" in this case. The tube will need some maintenance -- i.e. first of all, changing the output tubes every 2-5k hrs.The SS (and tube) requires changing the lytics --...
What's wrong with Thiel?
I looked inside some Thiels. They used single-core internal wire. FWIW
No Pain No Gain?
Only if you put your ear on the tweeter and turn the volume past 3 quarters you start hearing a little hissNo worry, looks like minimal thermal noise fm components. Natural. For yr 32, optimise the gain setting by ear, for each source component. Us...
HELP My whole system all powers up but NO SOUND
You have of course checked that the amps are connected to the pre's output...You haven't pressed or switched to tape /monitor/something? The source on the pre is at correct setting?Try connecting yr source to different input on the pre.Do all of t...
Passive preamp for Tube Amp?
Consider the following:Using a passive attenuation device requires that you optimise electrical "energy transfer" parametres (between pre & amp)1) The output impedance of the pre and the input of the amp are important. The placette seems to ha...
No Pain No Gain?
the higher you need to turn up volume, the more you get distortion and/or noiseIf so, there's something definitely wrong with the S/N -- the system noise floor is veru high, or gain stages, or...I strongly suggest you check it out.
