Cheapest Analogue Setup to Conquer Best Digital
My own experience also differs from Pbb's. Adding to the above, I have found that the major (financial) drawback to vinyl playback is the phono stage: IMO a reasonably priced TT set-up (~1,2 k) with a great phono stage performs very well vs. excel...
"Double" bi-amping a good idea?
I second Plato's vertical bi-amping suggestion -- before you invest any further. Use an (external) electronic crossover b/ween pre & amp, and check out the sound.Good luck!
A question concerning ethics
I too think it's a good idea. Also because it will prevent us from being too hasty on the uptake for "financially interested parties". After all, there may be people posting who are genuinely enthousiastic about a piece... (or am I too naive?)Cheers!
Update III on the cable shoot-out
Tekunda, very interesting and valuable info from first-hand experience. While others' mileage may vary, your posts offer a great benchmark. Pls keep this up!Cheers
Have you ever sniffed your AC ???
THANKS Sean & all others for "showing me the way to the next" ...mega tweak. And I thought I was well versed in things audiophile. Well, live (read &) learn, I suppose!Cheers!
Have you ever sniffed your AC ???
Hi Sean, Detlof: Any negative side-effects with the "wallfartremovers" (choking dynamics, etc)?
"I am there" vs. "They are here"
Subaru, not only must s & h/ware be good, as you note, but also the multi channel RECORDING. What exactly is to be wired into, say, the rear channels? The cellos, the violins, the echo (from where -- the Opera Hall?), the conductor swishing th...
Interconnect 5pin Din to XLR
Good show, Richard!
Best speakers for my system/taste/budget?
Excellent advice above. Another option: Audio Physics "Step" without their sub. Should be around $500; less, used/demo w/stands. A friend even "tweaked" these with good results!
"I am there" vs. "They are here"
Joekras, tweak the system to death before upgrading again; power supply, direct power lines, cables off the floor, support/ coupling & de-coupling for source, speakers & electronics, speaker placement... you can have lots of fun -- and may...
Good choice for ic?
Thousands of choices. But you've found one you like -- why not "synergise" it in your system (i.e. stick to same: same tonality, same characteristics, etc...). My bearlabs sound better as a full set than when I tried (mis)matching them w/ other br...
Speaker length vs. I/C length
I think the short speaker cables trick used to be a popular way of helping average output monos drive insensitive (79-ish db) speakers? Shorter wire, juice flows faster & more easily into the crossover... with indifferent results, in my case (...
Anyone else have a ...
MUCH better connection. I have done it with my amps. And yes, it is a major hassle! I wouldn't worry about it, though.
Exchange Krell KAV-250a for a Pass Labs X-350?
Dale, you mention "sterile": to me this sounds like you're questioning the KAVs tonal balance & musicality in yr system. IMO, try the X-350 on this system; listen to light jazz & classical, and check out the X's tonal balance vs. the KAV. ...
"I am there" vs. "They are here"
Oooops, my speaker experience should read Acapella "Excalibur" rather than Avantgarde. Sorry, all!
