Is my dealer lying to me?
Adding to the above, differences in performance are perceptible if the rest of the chain's able to reproduce them (rubbish or otherwise). A $0,5k player in a WELL MATCHED SYSTEM may not sound much inferior to a 2,5k player in a MISmatched system -...
I don't remember much, but I remember......
My first LP purchases (if memory serves!) were at Xmas -- the yr shall go un-named. I had saved up diligently. Titles: the Stones' "Let it Bleed", Hot Tuna (1st), and Beethoven's complete Symphonies at a whopping special offer on Supraphon ("stere...
New format players the future?
Ben-1)Possible -- but expensive, not well regarded by marketers. Also don't think the marketplace needs -- or can sustain -- a plethora of new formats in the long run. We already have 2 + 2 new propositions. IMO, keeping both SACD & DVD-A is f...
Who can fix electrocompaniet amps
Excellent point, Bwhite! Indeed, the 2A/250 is for european use (higher voltage, lower amperage)!
Speakers for the party system
So, now that we've solved the speakers problem... when's the party ;-) ?
Genesis - where are they??
OK, one way of keeping our Genesis gear alive is to: a) get part specs & manufacturer for speaker units. b) schematics for the servo amps.Is there anyone geographically close enough to make inquiries???The models in play here are:Genesis V (i ...
Brahms Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, op. 115.
Will do, Otto! Frogman, that's an interesting post, brief and informative!Cheers
Best recordings for the following...
For the 4 Seasons my preference goes to the Philips recording of I Musici -- available separately (426 944-2) or, better still in a boxed Vivaldi Edition Vol.2 (456 186-2). IMO both volume 1&2 are excellent.Praudio: The Dorati Nutracker on Phi...

Brahms Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, op. 115.
Otto, you are right, it's indeed a mono recording from the late '30s and available on CD (or was...). As Frogman notes, it's sonically bearable.Frogman, I'll have to check out the Leister w/Amadeus version (esp. vs the Vermeer!)-- thanks for the r...
Who R U?
Detlof, one release is on the "The Blues Brothers" film album. There are many others I don't remember right now unfortunately -- but can research if you wish!Cheers
Who R U?
Welcome on board, Dave! No relation to Cab of "Minnie the Moocher" fame:)
Brahms Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, op. 115.
Otto, I too like the Vermeer Quator on Orfeo. However I prefer an old EMI (references)release: Quator Busch & Reginald Kell.Cheers!
Upgrading power cord.. proven upgrade? or crap?
There *are* palpable reasons, it seems, which I cannot actually reproduce -- an ee could probably. It might be worth trying a used power cord on your present system. One such made an important difference on a tiny micromega integrated!
How BIG is yours?
Mike: No, no, there is hope! You only have around 4500 (!) hrs of music -- and growing steadily. It'll only take you about 7months of 7/24 listening to go through the collection. Think of Detlof, Cornfed & others!
