Genesis 350 vs. Carver AL-III
I beg to partially disagree with Brutusab & agree with mejames, as follows:*The Gen V (to a lesser extent, the 501), the 350 & 2 are better than the Carver (which was a very good spkr design for its time IMO)Remember, G5's DIFFER from the ...
New Audiogon Categories?
Viridian (LOL)-- your category is too big & would clog up the server. Instead, I propose a category titled "value-for-money products". Way fewer contenders there!
favorite SOPRANO?
I second Cecilia Bartholi
Can a transformer be replaced?
It's not difficult to replace a tranny as long as you know the secondaryvoltage & the VA spec -- which means a schematic.Try out diyaudio, someone may be able to help.
Halcro DM-58's or Levinson 33's?
I have listened to both at an average acoustic venue (dealer) driving Salons. I also listened to both driving the Genesis V (the main spkr of course, not the subwoof). Finally, let me say that although I admire the Salons, for some strange reason ...
favorite SOPRANO?
Try Maria Callas, esp early recordings. Compilations abound. Choose Italian opera first. Cheers
Speakers For Rock
I second the Tyler idea. although you might need a (stereo) subwoof to get full authority in the bass.An unusual recommendation: horns. A good design like the old Klipsch (if you have the room) could fit your bill.
The BEST system you've ever built !!!!
Jim -- wow! You STILL have that speaker system, right? Please don't say you've sold it... it'll take $50+ grand for a commercial sonic equivalent (if not more).(IF you still have it, why not go for 2x15" spkrlabs per channel in an W open baffle --...
Differences between small vs. large mid driver
While I agree with the gist of the above, I beg to differ slightly. Since I listen to large orchestral music, I need authority, dynamics -- the ability to excite lots of air.So, for the ~100->8-10kHz part I would use a wide-range 8-12" (supravo...
Can good soundstage be had in small room
Try small speakers, spaced ~55-65 degrees b/ween them, 2-3ft from their back wall and listen nearfield. You should be able to get a good image.
Jadis match FM Acoustic?
I would have to agree with Bachnguyen. The other way round (FM pre-> Jadis power) *could* be possible. Otherwise, a Goldmund pre could do the job.Ultimately though, easily the best combo is with a FM pre, run balanced, and allowing you to contr...
GMA Europa discontinued?
a manufacturer that cares about customer satisfaction more than profitsSurely you mean that, for GMA, the path to profits is through customer satisfaction (which is laudable, rare these days and refreshing on the rare occasions when someone DOES b...
A.A. Capitole..unfortunately not yet..$$$$$$
I strongly second Bombay's advice.
Seas' Thors kit up N runnin
I'm wondering..which other speaker would equal the ThorsThat's a bit subjective and the Thos is a very nice design (so you CAN pat yrself on the back, so to speak:)); speaking of diy designs, however, I'd mention the Ariel, the Acapella or J Kerko...
soundstage
Speaker placement (within your room, of course). That's where the "soundstageing comes from. It also comes from the recording & mastering -- but you can't do anything about that!Try placing yr speakers further into the room and asymmetrically ...
